The Gers returned to winning ways with a comprehensive 4-0 win over St. Johnstone, propelled by a Kevin Kelsy brace and goals from both Ryan Naderi and Tochi Chukwuani.
The rain battered down just as Naderi doubled Rangers’ advantage and provided a cushion in the contest before further strikes from Kelsy and Chukwuani.
Speaking to RangersTV after the victory, the manager commented: “It was a horrible day.
“It's difficult enough for the players who are running about, but also the fans sitting, getting drenched and watching the game.
“We spoke about the fans who have been at work all week and turn up here despite the conditions, and that it was important we try and give them a winning performance.
“It's quite ironic the fact that we were so good, and we only scored one goal in the first half, and in the second half it was a wee bit laboured at times, due to the conditions getting worse, the pitch getting really wet, and all the changes, but we still scored four goals.
“Our strikers got goals, substitutes got minutes, and we got a clean sheet.
“All in all, despite the conditions and such a horrible day, everybody soaked through, we got what we wanted when we came here, to get all three points. We move on now to the next one.”
Rangers were rampant in the opening 45 minutes and ought to have added to Kelsy’s opener, supplied by a Naderi cut-back.
St. Johnstone offered some resistance at the start of the second period, but once Naderi doubled the Gers’ advantage the floodgates – both literally and figuratively – opened.
McInnes added: “I thought we were superb in the first half, some of the play in terms of engaging our strikers at the right time, engaging our wide players, inviting the press and playing beyond them.
“It was such a strong performance, and the only thing that was disappointing was the result at half-time because we should have been more than 1-0 to the good.
“I think half-time came at a poor time for us and a good time for St Johnstone because the manager can go in and correct a few things.
“Although they made three changes, their approach was different. They kept a similar shape, and we were a wee bit slow to react to that.
“They had more directness and more big switches of play, and they started to find the one or two gaps.
“In that period we needed to just stay calm and come through it, and thankfully we managed to do that.
“We got the second goal, and we were off and running again.”
