Remembrance Day at Ibrox

101124 Rangers v Hearts, Wreath Ceremony
RANGERS are proud to be holding our annual Remembrance Day event at Ibrox tomorrow, commemorating those who gave their lives for their country.

There will be a minute’s silence before kick-off, and the players will show their respect by wearing special commemorative poppy shirts.

Rangers Football Club is honoured to welcome a number of Armed Forces veterans to the match against St Johnstone, as well as representatives from Poppyscotland and each branch of the services.

Representatives of the Club, Poppyscotland and the Rangers Charity Foundation will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the John Greig statue alongside representatives from the Royal Navy, Army and the RAF.

The Rangers Charity Foundation is hosting a can collection at Ibrox for Poppyscotland, who have been supporting servicemen and women, and veterans, and their families since 1921.

Please support our Armed Forces community, past and present, by wearing a poppy and donating to the Scottish Poppy Appeal. By doing so, you will be helping Poppyscotland provide life-changing support for the Armed Forces community in Scotland, including funding services in relation to advice, employment, housing, mental health and mobility.

The club and Foundation have helped to raise over £170,000 for Poppyscotland over the last seven years, thanks to Remembrance Day can collections, the auction of embroidered Remembrance Day match-worn shirts, the sale of Poppyscotland’s dual-branded Rangers badges and Castore Rangers FC poppy shirts and the Foundation’s fundraising for Poppyscotland as part of its Armed Forces Fund.

Poppyscotland is also one of the beneficiaries of the Rangers Charity Foundation’s Armed Forces Fund this season.

Damian Doran-Timson, Corporate Fundraiser at Poppyscotland commented: "We are incredibly grateful to the Rangers Charity Foundation for once again choosing Poppyscotland as one of the charities to benefit from this season's Armed Forces Fund.

“For many years, the Armed Forces Fund and Poppyscotland have worked together to support veterans and the wider Armed Forces community across Scotland, helping ensure those who serve, and their families, can access the support they need.

“Funding from the Armed Forces Fund helps us provide life-changing support to serving personnel, veterans and their families. From mental health and wellbeing services to financial assistance, housing support and mobility aids, these funds make a real difference to people facing the challenges that can come with military service."

Immediately prior to kick-off, there will be a minute’s silence to mark the passing of all those brave men and women who have lost their life defending our country. We would ask all supporters to stand, if they are able to do so, to honour our fallen.

Two veterans will lead out the teams along with two sailors, two soldiers and two airmen.

We will have distinguished guests in the Director’s Box, including Commander Gary Farmer from the Royal Navy, Brigadier Dave Calder OBE – Commander 51st Infantry Brigade and HQ Scotland, and Colour Sergeant Jim Gould from the Army, Corporal Grant Gamble and Sergeant Scott Jamieson from the RAF and Damian Doran-Timson from Poppyscotland.

We are also proud to welcome a number of veterans associated with Ipswich Town FC who have been accompanied by former Rangers Captain, and Ipswich Town Captain, Terry Butcher to the match today as part of a Medals2Matches (M2M) initiative.

One of Terry’s sons, Christopher, served in the Royal Artillery in Afghanistan and sadly passed away aged 35.   M2M and supporting our armed forces personnel and veterans is a cause very close to Terry’s heart, and we are delighted to be able to welcome him back to Ibrox for the match and commemoration of Remembrance.

M2M was an idea originally proposed by Nigel Seaman to Ipswich Town FC and encourages all serving personnel and veterans to wear their medals with pride at matches where Remembrance is observed – an initiative that we are also promoting at Ibrox as we honour their service.

Gold Armed Forces Award

Rangers’ commitment to veterans and serving personnel was recognised in 2019 when the Club and Foundation received the Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award, becoming the first British football club and club charity to do so.

Rangers and the Rangers Charity Foundation signed the Armed Forces Covenant in October 2016 – a commitment to supporting the forces through services, policy and project – and were recognised for their “immense” work with the Armed Forces.

The Club and Foundation deliver a range of initiatives as part of the Armed Forces Covenant pledge, from welcoming serving regulars and reservists to Ibrox via Tickets for Troops, to supporting services-related charities and providing community programmes for veterans.

The Club and Foundation also mark Armed Forces Day and Remembrance Day as part of the pledge.

Armed Forces Fund

The Rangers Charity Foundation has a long and proud tradition of working with services-related charities via its Armed Forces Fund.

The Foundation has donated over £284,000 in cash to Armed Forces and veterans charities to date, as well as significant in-kind support. Donations have included over £57,000 to Erskine and £40,000 to ABF The Soldiers Charity, as well as donations to many others such as Combat Stress, Bravehound and AA Veterans Support.

The Armed Forces Fund selects services-related charities to work with each season, and for season 2026/27, Poppyscotland will once again be one of the beneficiaries, along with Veterans Housing Scotland.

Rangers Football Club will also be marking Remembrance at the Women’s match at Broadwood Stadium on Sunday 8 November 2026.
