Report: Rangers 3-0 Partick Thistle Women

Five women's football players in blue shirts celebrate a goal with raised hands.
A brace from Katie Wilkinson and a goal from May Cruft secured Rangers’ place in the Sky Sports Cup semi-finals as the Light Blues recorded a convincing 3-0 victory over Partick Thistle at Broadwood this afternoon.

Leanne Crichton’s side controlled proceedings in Cumbernauld, with Cruft opening the scoring before Wilkinson added a superb free-kick ahead of the break. The forward then completed her brace in the second half, bringing up a landmark 100 goals for the club.

Following last weekend’s 4-0 victory over Motherwell, Leanne Crichton made three changes to her side, with Eilidh Austin, Jodi McLeary and Hannah Blake coming into the starting lineup in place of Lily Boyce, Sophie Black and Laura Berry.

Rangers made a bright start to their Sky Sports Cup quarter-final against Partick Thistle, creating several promising opportunities before taking a deserved lead in the first half.

Calliste Brookshire came closest to opening the scoring early on, as her dangerous in swinging delivery from a corner rattled off the crossbar, leaving Chloe Logan scrambling to protect her goal.

Wilkinson was next to threaten, with the forward looking certain to find the net from close range. However, Logan produced an excellent save to deny her, before Bailley Collins looked to capitalise on the rebound, only to send her effort over the bar.

The pressure eventually told as Rangers broke the deadlock through Cruft. Collins drove forward down the right-hand side and, after seeing her initial cross blocked, showed great determination to regain possession and keep the move alive. She then picked out Cruft at the edge of the box, who made no mistake, firing a low, powerful effort beyond Logan.

Wilkinson then doubled the advantage in style, stepping up to take a free-kick just outside the penalty area. The forward struck a superb effort over the wall and into the bottom corner, leaving Logan rooted to the spot as the Gers took a commanding two-goal lead into the break.

Rangers continued where they left off after the break, with Collins once again at the heart of the action. Driving forward with the ball, she picked out Wilkinson in the middle of the penalty area, and the forward made no mistake, calmly placing the ball beyond Logan and into the back of the net.

The goal marked a significant milestone for Wilkinson, taking her tally to 100 goals for the club as she completed her brace and further extended Rangers’ advantage.

The Light Blues continued to manage the game with composure, keeping Partick Thistle at bay and protecting their clean sheet as the final whistle confirmed a convincing victory.

Crichton’s side will now turn their attention to the semi-final draw, as they discover who stands between them and a place in the Sky Sports Cup final.
