Gers took the lead early in the game through a Guilherme Montóia, before the Polish side responded with a first-half double from Kajetan Szmyt.
From last week’s Scottish Premiership opener against Dundee United, there were five changes to the starting line-up with new signing Daisuke Yokota making his debut having joined the club yesterday from Hannover 96. Ross McCrorie, Dan Neil, Tochi Chukwuani and Youssef Chermiti also came into the starting team.
Rangers started with Ivor Pandur in goal, behind a back four of Ross McCrorie, Emmanuel Fernandez, Dujon Sterling and Tuur Rommens. Dan Neil captained the side and lined up in midfield alongside Tochi Chukwuani and Mohamed Diomande.
McInnes opted for Youssef Chermiti to lead the line this evening, with support in the wide areas from Yokota and Thelo Aasgaard.
There was a fantastic atmosphere inside the stadium and it was a great start for Rangers as they took the lead inside just four minutes.
Youssef Chermiti and Tuur Rommens combined well down the left, with a neat one two which ultimately led to Rommens delivering a dangerous ball across the face of goal. Guilherme Montóia could only turn it into his own net as he tried to clear the ball giving Rangers the early advantage in this tie.
Chermiti was next to have an effort as he pressed the defenders to regain possession in a dangerous position, but his right-footed shot was held by the goalkeeper.
However, despite the positive start from Rangers, the home side responded with an equaliser in the 13th minute. A strike from distance from Kajetan Szmyt evaded the defence and snuck in low at the left-hand post.
It wasn’t long until Jagiellonia Białystok had the lead with just 21 minutes played and it was a second goal of the evening for Kajetan Szmyt. The Polish side broke up the pitch on the right, before Rodrigo Conceição delivered a ball into the box. Ivor Pandur denied an initial shot from Nik Prelec with a good save, but the rebound fell for Szmyt who made no mistake in finding the target.
Rodrigo Conceição had a shot of his own shortly after as he again found space down the right and this time tried to cut in and get an effort away at the post, but it hit the side netting. Before the break, Pandur denied Nik Prelec again as he blocked a deflected shot from inside the box.
There was a triple change for Rangers at the break as Findlay Curtis, Cammy Devlin and Nico Raskin were introduced in place of Daisuke Yokota, Tochi Chukwuani and Dan Neil.
Rangers had an opportunity as Cammy Devlin tried to pick out Diomande in the box, but the pass was blocked by a Jagiellonia defender. Thelo Aasgaard hit the rebound, but it was high of the target from the midfielder.
Findlay Curtis was next to come close as he got on the end of a good delivery from Nico Raskin, but it was just wide of the post. Gers were building a bit of pressure, as Cammy Devlin saw a looping strike tipped over the bar by Sławomir Abramowicz.
There was a big chance for the home side to extend their lead as Jesús Imaz was picked out inside the box with a cut-back, but he flashed his shot wide of Pandur’s goal. At the other end, Diomande headed over a Findlay Curtis cross.
Vanja Dragojevic was handed his Rangers debut for the final 15 minutes of the game as he replaced Thelo Aasgaard.
Rangers were continuing to search for an equaliser, as a freekick was worked out on the left, with Findlay Curtis forcing a save from the goalkeeper as he cut inside to get a shot away before Ross McCrorie’s rebound effort was deflected high.
Curtis had made an impact since coming on and came agonisingly close in added time as he hit the post with a powerful strike, Jagiellonia Białystok held on and take a narrow lead into next week’s second-leg at Ibrox.
