Danny Röhl’s men took the lead at Tynecastle through Dujon Sterling, but the home side responded in the second-half with goals from Stephen Kingsley and Lawrence Shankland.

There were four changes from last weekend’s defeat to Motherwell as James Tavernier, Mohamed Diomande, Andreas Skov Olsen and Mikey Moore came in from the start.

Jayden Meghoma was not named in the matchday squad, while Thelo Aasgaard, Djeidi Gassama and Bojan Miovski were on the bench.

Rangers started with Jack Butland in goal behind a back four of James Tavernier, Nasser Djiga, Emmanuel Fernandez and Dujon Sterling.

Nico Raskin and Tochi Chukwuani were joined in midfield by Mohamed Diomande, while Mikey Moore and Skov Olsen supported striker Youssef Chermiti.

It was Rangers who got the action underway at a sold-out Tynecastle in matchday 35 of the league campaign and as expected it was a frantic start to the match.

A free-kick opened up the first chance for Hearts, as Marc Leonard’s delivery was headed towards goal by Craig Halkett but the defender sent his effort over the bar.

At the other end, Mikey Moore sent an inviting delivery across the face of goal, before Nico Raskin picked it up on the left. The midfielder tried a shot from a tight angle but it was pushed over by Schowlow and out for Rangers’ first corner of the match.

With 23 minutes played, it was Rangers who had the lead and it was a big moment from Dujon Sterling. A long throw-in was sent into the box by James Tavernier, and it was flicked into the path of Sterling. He hit a right-footed shot into the ground which looped over Schwolow and into the back of the net to give Gers the edge in Edinburgh.

It had been a positive opening period for Rangers, and the goal only gave them more control in this fixture. While clear-cut chances were limited, Röhl’s men were showing their composure on the ball and really limiting opportunities for the home side as they went in at the break with a deserved advantage.

Hearts were looking for a response in the second-half, with Derek McInnes making a change at the break which saw Islam Chesnokov replaced by Blair Spittal.

Jack Butland was called into action with 53 minutes played as Claudio Braga got a low shot towards goal from inside the box, but the Rangers number one got down well to gather the effort.

However, just a minute later, Hearts had the goal they were looking for as they drew the game level. An initial shot from Alexandros Kyziridis bounced back off the post, with Stephen Kingsley on hand to finish the rebound.

Emmanuel Fernandez had a header saved from Schwolow as he got on the end of another long throw from captain James Tavernier.

With just over 20 minutes remaining at Tynecastle, Röhl turned to the bench for the first time this evening as Djeidi Gassama was introduced in place of Andreas Skov Olsen.

The game was turned on its head in the 71st minute, as Lawrence Shankland fired the home side into the lead. Stephen Kingsley kept a ball in down the left at the byline, and cut it back towards the Hearts captain who finished low beyond Butland.

The Rangers pulled off a good save seconds later to deny Blair Spittal who looked to have found the top corner, but the goalkeeper matched the effort.

That goal prompted a triple change as Tuur Rommens, Ryan Naderi and Thelo Aasgaard came on to replace Dujon Sterling, Nico Raskin and Mikey Moore.

There was almost an instant impact from Aasgaard, as he headed onto the crossbar from a Rangers set-piece.

Bojan Miovski was next to be introduced with time running out for Rangers at Tynecastle, he came on to replace Mohamed Diomande.

There were seven minutes of added time to be played, but there was no route back for Gers as the home side held on to their 2-1 victory.
