Signaling their intent from the off, there was a first Rangers goal for Ryan Naderi to open the scoring, before James Tavernier was on hand to fire in a hat-trick including one from the penalty spot. There was still time for a first goal in blue for January arrival Tochi Chukwuani who headed home at the front post as the hosts went in five to the good at the break.

Starting where they left off in the second period, Naderi headed in his second of the afternoon before Bojan Miovski did the same with 10 minutes remaining. Chukwuani’s second inside the area in the final minute rounded off the scoring as the Gers now await their last eight fate in the draw later this evening.

Head Coach Danny Röhl rung the changes for the visit of the Championship side. Liam Kelly started between the posts, with Dujon Sterling coming into the backline as well as Tuur Rommens, who made his first Rangers start.

Tochi Chukwuani, Oliver Antman and Andreas Skov Olsen also came in, as did Ryan Naderi, who also was named in a starting side for the first time following his deadline day arrival earlier this week.

In a varied system operating with two strikers, the hosts look for a fast start against the side who knocked them out of the competition at the same stage last season. Oliver Antman, who began off the left combined with forward Bojan Miovski who turned over the ball. He quickly looked to slip in partner Ryan Naderi who was making his first start, but the pass just had too much on it which allowed Calum Ferrie to gather.

The hosts almost profited a set piece routine to break the deadlock within four minutes at Ibrox. Antman combined with his captain James Tavernier, the former cut it back to Turr Rommens who had peeled free, but the defender was denied a first Rangers goal on his first start as the Queen’s Park shot stopper pushed it away at the far post.

A special moment was to arrive minutes later as Rangers made the most of a front foot start at Ibrox. An in swinging Tavernier corner saw Ryan Naderi unmarked at the back post to head home his first goal for the club having joined on transfer deadline day to get the team off to the perfect start in Govan.

Tochi Chukwuani was next to try his luck following a left footed half volley that flew over the top. As the Gers started in a positive manner looking to put the tie beyond their Championship visitors in the early stages of the game.

Queen’s Park came forward for the first time in the game and momentarily thought they had a surprise equaliser given how the start of the game panned out. Sebastian Drozd found himself in a dangerous position on the left hand side as he cut the ball across for Aidan Connolly to tap in, but the winger was in an offside position when he turned the ball over the line.

It gave Rangers the spark back into life they needed as in the next phase of play they doubled their advantage. Patiently working ball down the left Mohamed Diomande’s left footed delivery broke kind for Tavernier who brought it down and finished the ball cooly in the box past Ferrie to put the home side in a commanding position inside 20 minutes.

Miovski went close with a header from Chukwuani’s cross as the Gers really looked in the mood at Ibrox to go and score further goals. Set pieces looked to be a continuous threat with the Spiders struggling to cope with the intensity the home side were operating at.

That come to fruition once again as a moment to forget for the Queen’s Park goalkeeper followed as Rangers made it three. Tavernier’s corner on top of the keeper saw his punch it into his own net with the Gers having one foot in the quarter-finals inside 25 minutes in Glasgow.

Miovski was denied by a second time with his head before Tavernier fired one well over from the edge of the area in search of his first ever Rangers hat-trick. Continuously on the front foot it was looking like a long afternoon for the away side with the Gers in a rampant mood to add to their three goals.

After Andreas Skov Olsen’s shot inside the box struck an arm, there was an opportunity for the captain to grab the match ball from 12 yards. Tavernier stepped up and dispatched the penalty into the bottom left corner sending Ferrie the wrong way with the Light Blues finding a fourth goal before the interval.

There was still time before the break for a fifth as Chukwuani popped up with his first Rangers goal as the hosts made the most of yet another set piece. Tavernier the provider again, his delivery into the bodies at the front post saw the Dane make the final contact with the back of his head to further the Gers’ tally.

Despite a first half to forgot, it was Queen’s who had the first opening after the restart with Louis Longridge having an opening to find a consolation. The ball was fired low across the box from the left and picked up by the number 7, he shifted it onto his right foot but the effort flew well over with Liam Kelly seeing it past with comfort.

Rangers however, started how they left of as there was a second headed goal of the day from Naderi to make it six. A cross from Antman, who was operating at right-back after the restart, clipped a great delivery in which saw the German rise above everyone to head beyond Ferrie at the back post.

Danny Röhl turned to his bench to give numerous players minutes in the midst of a bus schedule for the Gers. They were still in fluent mood and looked likely to add to their seven whenever they progressed into the final third. Skov Olsen went close on the volley after being teed up just outside the area, as he stung the palms of Ferrie who denied him.

Connolly went close to seeing the side who are rooted to the bottom of the Championship table get on the scoresheet at Ibrox. In a rare flurry forward, the number 11 cut inside onto his left foot and looked to place one into the far corner beyond Kelly, who saw it wide of his right hand post.

After a lengthy period in the game of possession but not much in front of goal, Rangers produced a seventh. Patiently working the ball down the right Antman’s cross once again was perfectly weighted for a frontman to get his head on it as Miovski’s flick header flashed past Ferrie into the far corner with 10 minutes remaining.

As the game was about to reach its conclusion there was still time for Chukwuani to score a second of the day to round off the scoring. After a driving run forward his left footed shot was fired low into the net beyond Ferrie to seal the Gers place in the next round as they await their opponents in the draw tonight.
