Hamza Igamane opened the scoring early in the match, before Leon Balogun and Cyriel Dessers sealed the game with two injury time goals.
From the weekend’s 3-1 victory over St Johnstone, the manager named an unchanged starting XI as Liam Kelly lined-up in goal behind a back four of Ridvan, Robin Propper, Clinton Nsiala and Jefte. Nico Raskin captained the side once again, and was joined in midfield by Mohamed Diomande, while Danilo played in an advanced position in support of the front three of Vaclav Cerny, Ianis Hagi and Hamza Igamane.
The squad was also boosted by the return of captain James Tavernier and Leon Balogun who were named on the bench.
It was the first time the sides had met at Ibrox this season, with Rangers looking to continue their strong home form with 10 wins and a draw in the 11 games prior to tonight’s fixture.
Clement’s men started well and had a fantastic chance to open the scoring with eight minutes on the clock. Vaclav Cerny won the ball back in a dangerous position after a loose pass from Aberdeen and managed to play through Hamza Igamane. The on-form striker released a left-footed shot towards goal, but it bounced agonisingly wide of the post.
It wasn’t long until the breakthrough came for Clement’s men as they managed to find the crucial opening with 13 minutes played. Aberdeen keeper Ross Doohan threw the ball out to Sivert Nilsen but Vaclav Cerny again put pressure on the defender and managed to steal it and cut it back to Mohamed Diomande.
Diomande’s strike was blocked by Aberdeen bodies in the box, but the rebound fell for Hamza Igamane and the striker lifted a right-footed shot into the back of the net for his seventh goal in six matches.
It had been a lively start for Rangers, and Cerny, who was causing problems for Aberdeen down the right. The winger had a shot of his own shortly after as he cut inside to send a right-footed effort towards goal, but it was just wide of the target, before Danilo had a shot held by Doohan.
There was almost an opportunity for Aberdeen as Leighton Clarkson spotted Liam Kelly off of his line and tried to loop the ball over the Rangers keeper from distance, but he recovered well to keep Rangers in front.
At the other end, Hagi found Danilo with a good ball as Rangers looked for a second, but the Brazilian’s shot was matched by a good save from Doohan.
Igamane had a chance for a second as he was set-up for a shot after a one-two with Danilo but his powerful hit was pushed away by the Aberdeen goalkeeper. Rangers were pushing for another before the break as Doohan did well to block a Jefte shot at the near post to send it out for a corner.
A free-kick opened up an opportunity for Aberdeen as Clarkson whipped a dangerous cross into the box but Kirsters Tobers header was held by Liam Kelly.
There was a change for Rangers at half-time as Nedim Bajrami was introduced in place of Danilo.
With 57 minutes played at Ibrox, Ridvan found Hagi on the edge of the box, but the Romanian was denied by the crossbar as he sent a left-footed strike towards goal, before Bajrami flashed a shot wide of the target a few minutes later. Another chance fell for Bajrami as he looked to curl a low strike into the bottom left-hand corner, but it landed on the wrong side of the post.
James McGarry had a shot blocked for Aberdeen as they looked to hit Rangers on the break with 20 minutes of the game remaining.
Rangers were forced into another change in the 75th minute, as Robin Propper was replaced by Leon Balogun.
Morris made ground down the right for Aberdeen before cutting it back to Devlin who sent a cross in the box in search of Duk, but it was dealt with by Rangers.
Captain James Tavernier made his return from injury with 79 minutes played as he came on to replace Ianis Hagi for the final period at Ibrox.
From a Vaclav Cerny corner, Rangers were again denied by the woodwork as Leon Balogun’s header came off the post. The defender had another opportunity cleared off the line as the game approached the 90th minute.
With seven minutes of added time at Ibrox, the final period was made more comfortable and Balogun did get his goal as he headed home a Clinton Nsiala cross.
The scoring wasn’t done for Rangers as Cyriel Dessers sealed the game in the 97th minute with a fine finish to see Clement’s men to a 3-0 victory.
