Hamza Igamane scored a hat-trick for Clement’s men, but a double from Martin Boyle and a goal from Rocky Bushiri saw the game end level.
It was the first away game of 2025 for Rangers against a Hibs side who have turned around their form, with four wins and a draw in their last five league outings prior to this afternoon.
With a number of experienced players including James Tavernier, Jack Butland, John Souttar, Leon Balogun and Tom Lawrence still missing through injury, Clement named an unchanged line-up from Thursday’s Old Firm win.
Liam Kelly was back between the sticks, behind a back four of Ridvan, Dujon Sterling, Robin Propper and Jefte. Nico Raskin captained the side in midfield joined there by Mohamed Diomande and Nedim Bajrami. It was once again Hamza Igamane who led the line for Rangers, with support from Vaclav Cerny and Ianis Hagi.
It was a fantastic start from the Light Blues at Easter Road, and they got their rewards with a goal after just four minutes. Hamza Igamane did well to put Rocky Bushiri under pressure as the Hibs defender tried to clear a long ball, but it was the Rangers striker who came out on top with Nedim Bajrami picking up the ball.
He sent it out wide to Ianis Hagi on the left flank and he had a look up to spot Igamane in space around the penalty spot and the Moroccan striker cooly guided a left-footed finish beyond Jordan Smith for his ninth goal of the season.
Bajrami had a curling strike deflected just wide for a corner as Clement’s men looked to punish Hibs in this early spell of pressure.
There was another good chance for Rangers with 12 minutes on the clock as Cerny and Diomande combined to launch another attack, with Igamane getting the final shot away but it was deflected wide of the target.
Diomande was again involved as he fed a lovely ball through to Bajrami, who managed to hold his line perfectly to stay onside, but Jordan Smith was able to block his shot from a tight angle to send it out for a corner. Seconds later, Smith was again called into action to pull off a good save low to his left, to push out a powerful strike from Vaclav Cerny.
It had been an impressive opening 20 minutes, and the pressure paid off with Rangers doubling their advantage at Easter Road. Igamane was again the man who found the target with a fine header beyond Smith after getting on the end of a Nedim Bajrami cross from the left. The Hibs keeper appeared to get a hand to it, but it wasn’t enough to keep out the back of the net.
A corner at the other end provided an opening for Hibs as Triantis saw a header deflected wide of the target.
The home side had one back with just over half an hour played in Edinburgh as captain Martin Boyle found the target for David Gray’s men. A free-kick was lifted into the box with Rocky Bushiri heading down and into the path of the Hibs forward and he fired low across goal beyond Liam Kelly.
Five minutes into the second-half, Igamane was denied his hat-trick as a low shot from inside the box looked set to nestle in the bottom corner, but Smith got down to block.
As the game approached the hour mark, Hibs were awarded a penalty as Josh Campbell was taken down in the box by Ianis Hagi with John Beaton pointing to the spot. After a VAR check the spot-kick was confirmed and Martin Boyle stepped up.
For the second time this afternoon the Hibs captain found the target as he sent a powerful penalty beyond Liam Kelly to draw the game level with half an hour remaining.
Liam Kelly pulled off a save to deny Dwight Gayle as he got his head to a Christopher Cadden cross, before he pushed away a Lewis Miller shot as the home side took a lift from their second goal.
From a corner, Hibs continued to threaten as Lewis Miller’s header bounced back off the post before being gathered by Kelly.
Dujon Sterling was forced off with injury with 20 minutes of the game remaining with Leon King coming on for his first appearance of the season. Clement made a further two changes with Danilo and Oscar Cortes also introduced in place of Nedim Bajrami and Ianis Hagi.
With 73 minutes played, Rangers were back in front and it was a hat-trick for Hamza Igamane. The striker was again in the perfect position, and it was a fantastic finish from the 22-year-old to send it beyond Smith.
A final change came for Rangers as Vaclav Cerny was replaced by Connor Barron.
Hibs had an equaliser with less than 10 minutes remaining at Easter Road as Nicky Cadden’s corner was headed home by Rocky Bushiri.
There was a fantastic opportunity for Hamza Igamane in the final minute of the game as he got the better of Rocky Bushiri to race through on goal but was unable to find the finish to give Rangers the lead once again.
With four minutes added on, both teams were still looking for the winning goal, but it wasn’t to come as the match finished 3-3.
