Goals from Apostolos Stamatelopoulos and Tawadna Maswanhise had the home side ahead at half-time, before Hamza Igamane came off the bench to score twice in the second-half.
There were seven changes from Thursday’s game against St Mirren with Jack Butland in goal behind a back four of James Tavernier, Dujon Sterling, Robin Propper and Ridvan.
Nico Raskin and Kieran Dowell came into midfield alongside Mohamed Diomande, while Oscar Cortes returned to make his first start since September in a front three alongside Danilo and Cyriel Dessers.
It was Rangers who had the first chance of the match as they looked to make a strong start in Lanarkshire. The ball broke for Mohamed Diomande and the midfielder sent a looping shot over the goalkeeper, but it was just high of the bar.
With 7 minutes played, the Light Blues had another opportunity as Ridvan delivered a lovely ball into the box from the left, with Cyriel Dessers in a good position to get a touch to send it towards goal but it was gathered by goalkeeper Aston Oxborough.
At the other end, Tawanda Maswanhise broke in an attack for the home side before managing to get a shot away just inside the box but Jack Butland was able to gather comfortably.
With 16 minutes played, it was Motherwell who took the lead in this match. A long ball was played over the top before being fed into the path of Apostolos Stamatelopoulos by Tawanda Maswanhise. The forward was through on goal and got a crucial touch to send it low beyond Butland.
Rangers looked for a response, as Danilo headed wide from a Ridvan cross before Oscar Cortes flashed a shot wide of the target.
However, it was the home side who took their chance at the other end as they doubled their lead at Fir Park. Assisting the first goal, it was Tawanda Maswanhise who found the target this time as the ball dropped for him in the box and he was able to turn and get a shot away to send beyond Butland.
Clement made a double change at half time as Rangers looked for a route back into this game with Vaclav Cerny and Hamza Igamane introduced in place of Kieran Dowell and Cyriel Dessers.
Less than five minutes into the second-half, Clement’s men had a goal back as Danilo hit the post with an initial shot from inside the box after a cross from Vaclav Cerny, before Hamza Igamane blasted a powerful strike into the back of the net from the rebound.
Cerny forced a good save from Oxborough shortly after as he played a one-two with Danilo before guiding a low strike towards goal but the keeper got low to his right to block it. Just seconds later, Motherwell substitute Tony Watt came close as he curled a shot towards goal which was pushed wide by Butland.
From the resulting corner, Andy Halliday whipped the ball into the box with it landing in the back of the net. Referee Kevin Clancy disallowed the goal for a foul on Jack Butland and after a VAR check the decision was confirmed.
The ball was in the net again for Motherwell with 63 minutes played. An initial shot hit the crossbar before Tony Watt fired into the back of the net but it was disallowed for offside in the build-up.
Rabbi Matondo was introduced with 25 minutes of the game remaining as he made his first appearance since early September after recovering from an injury to replace Oscar Cortes.
Rangers were level and it was Hamza Igamane once again as he got his second goal of the game with 68 minutes played at Fir Park. It was good build-up play from Rangers as Ridvan found thet Moroccan and he showed his composure with a lovely finish beyond Oxborough.
Clement’s men were really pushing for a third goal, as Ewan Wilson cleared a Vaclav Cerny shot off the line.
With a minute of the 90 left, Nedim Bajrami was introduced for Mohamed Diomanade. With a number of VAR checks in the match, there were 10 minutes added on as both teams continued to search for a winning goal.
Danilo fired over the bar as he got on the end of a ball in the box, but Rangers were unable to find the third goal in the final stages.
