James Tavernier fired the Light Blues ahead with a fine volley, before Myziane Maolida equalised in injury time for the visitors, but Rangers responded quickly through Cyriel Dessers to go in ahead at the break.
Rabbi Matondo came off the bench in the second-half to add a third in the final minutes at Ibrox and secure the points.
With the international break and the postponement of the Dundee fixture, it was the Gers’ first outing since the Benfica match at Ibrox on March 14.
From that one, the manager named two changes to his starting line-up with Borna Barisic replacing the injured Ridvan at left-back, while Todd Cantwell came in from the start with Tom Lawrence on the bench.
There was also a welcome return to the matchday squad for Abdallah Sima, Dujon Sterling and Ross McCausland as they all continue their recovery from injury.
Rangers started with Jack Butland in goal and a back four of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, John Souttar and Borna Barisic. John Lundstram and Mohamed Diomande were in midfield alongside Todd Cantwell, while Fabio Silva again took up position on the left, with Scott Wright on the right in support of striker Cyriel Dessers.
The first real chance for Rangers fell just inside the opening 10 minutes as Fabio Silva’s quick throw-in found Mohamed Diomande in space just on the edge of the box. The midfielder touched it into the path of Cyriel Dessers who in turn found Scott Wright and he released a low powerful effort towards goal but it was just wide of the target.
In another good chance for Clement’s men, Mohamed Diomande did well to win the ball back inside the Rangers box with a strong block to kick-start a quick counter-attack. The midfielder sent a long ball forward to find Cyriel Dessers who drove to the byline before cutting it back to Scott Wright. Wright’s shot looked goalbound but was cleared off the line by Jordan Obita.
Just minutes later, with 18 on the clock at Ibrox, referee David Dickinson was called to the VAR monitor after a foul on John Souttar by Will Fish inside the box as he attacked a Rangers corner.
Captain James Tavernier took to the spot but his right-footed penalty was blocked by Marshall, however Rangers were quick to react on the rebound with Scott Wright showing composure to guide a right-footed finish low beyond the Hibs number 1. However, VAR was called into action again and the goal was disallowed for encroachment.
It wasn’t long at Ibrox until Rangers did have the advantage and it was the captain who stepped-up with another big goal in blue.
Todd Cantwell started the move down the left and found John Lundstram in space on the overlap. The midfielder whipped an inviting cross into the box with a Hibs defender getting a touch on the ball which flicked it into the path of Tavernier who sent a powerful volley beyond Marshall.
The goal was Tavernier’s 131st senior career goal making him the UK highest scoring defender in history.
Hibs threatened before the break as Chris Cadden looked for the run of Emiliano Hansen inside the box but Butland was quick to react to gather.
With seven minutes added on at the end of the first-half, Hibs found themselves level at Ibrox. From a Rangers attack, the visitors managed to break up the pitch through Elie Youan who picked out Myziane Maolida in the box and he slotted low beyond Jack Butland.
Rangers almost found a response quickly as a lovely delivery from Borna Barisic was headed towards goal by Cyriel Dessers but David Marshall was able to get a hand on it to touch it over for a corner.
Clement’s men did have the lead again in the final minute of added time and it was Dessers who found the target with his third consecutive league goal against Hibernian.
Todd Cantwell delivered a fantastic ball from the right and Dessers made no mistake in sending a header beyond Marshall to give Rangers a well-deserved lead at the break.
Early in the second-half Cantwell came close himself as he flashed an effort wide of Marshall’s left-hand post.
Marshall was called into action again as he got a strong hand on a header from Dessers after the striker got on the end of a Barisic delivery before at the other end Maolida tried an effort from distance himself as he cut inside to get a strike away, but it was just wide.
Philippe Clement turned to his bench for the first time this afternoon as he introduced Tom Lawrence and Dujon Sterling in place of Todd Cantwell and Scott Wright.
There was a fantastic chance for Rangers to add a third shortly after as Tavernier found Dessers in the box but his strike was just wide of the target.
Ross McCausland also made his return from injury as he replaced Borna Barisic, with Dujon Sterling taking up the left-back position.
Abdallah Sima was next to make his return as the on-loan Brighton winger took to the pitch for the first time since January as he replaced Cyriel Dessers. Rabbi Matondo was also introduced in place of Fabio Silva.
It was 3-1 with six minutes of the match remaining and it was a fantastic impact from substitute Rabbi Matondo. The winger picked-up the ball on the left, cut inside and curled the ball beyond Marshall and into the top corner.
