It was a fine performance from Philippe Clement’s side on the road as goals from Ridvan, Todd Cantwell and Cyriel Dessers secured the three points.
There were three changes from the Scottish Cup victory over Dumbarton as Jack Butland returned to goal in place of Robby McCrorie, while Leon Balogun came in for the suspended Connor Goldson.
Fabio Silva, who joined on loan from Wolves at the start of the month, made his first competitive start for the club with Cyriel Dessers on the bench.
That meant Rangers started with Butland in goal and a back four of James Tavernier, John Souttar, Leon Balogun and Ridvan.
It was the same midfield three for this one as John Lundstram, Nico Raskin and Todd Cantwell lined-up there, with Ross McCausland and Rabbi Matondo supporting Silva in attack.
Pre-match, manager Philippe Clement was looking for his squad to pick-up from where they left off before the winter break with just one defeat in 11 league matches since the Belgian took over in October.
It was a lively start in Leith, with Jack Butland forced into a save inside the opening two minutes. Elie Youan broke from an early Rangers corner to drive forward for Hibernian before taking on the shot from the left-hand side of the box, but Butland was on hand to block the effort.
Rangers’ first opportunity came with eight minutes on the clock as Rabbi Matondo found space on the left flank with a good run to the byline to cut the ball back for Fabio Silva but his first-time shot was just wide of David Marshall’s right-hand post.
Matondo almost had a chance of his own as the match approached the 20-minute mark with Rangers looking to create an opening from a set-piece. Ridvan’s corner was flicked towards the back post by Leon Balogun, but it was just out of reach for the winger.
It was an open contest so far, but it was Rangers who were able to find the breakthrough with half an hour played. In a lovely passing move from Gers, Lundstram lifted a perfect ball into the path of Ridvan who took a great first touch before drilling a powerful strike beyond Marshall for his first league goal for the club.
Taveres had a shot for Hibs shortly after as Nick Montgomery’s side looked for a quick response in this match, but his strike was blocked by Jack Butland, before Youan headed wide another opportunity for the hosts as he got on the end of a Joe Newell free-kick.
Before half-time, Rangers were denied a second goal as James Tavernier’s powerful strike was tipped over by Marshall, but the linesman raised his flag for offside following the stop.
However, the second goal did come before the break, and it was another fantastic effort from Clement’s men. McCausland picked up the ball on the right and found Cantwell in space on the edge of the box. The midfielder turned well before releasing a superb right-footed strike which evaded Marshall at his left-hand post to burst the back of the net and double Gers’ advantage in first-half added time.
There were two changes for Rangers at the break as Nico Raskin and Todd Cantwell were replaced by Dujon Sterling and Tom Lawrence.
Matondo had a chance early in the second-half as he found himself in space in the box but his right-footed strike hit the side netting.
Jack Butland pulled off a phenomenal save shortly after as Hibs looked almost certain to get a goal back in the game. The home side drove forward with Myziane Maoulida getting a strong shot away from inside the box but the Rangers number one somehow blocked the strike to deny the forward.
There was a further change for the Light Blues as Scott Wright came on for the final 20 minutes in place of Ross McCausland, before another Rangers change saw Cyriel Dessers come on for Fabio Silva.
It wasn’t long until Rangers had their third goal, and it was an instant impact from Cyriel Dessers. A goal kick from David Marshall only made it as far as Rabbi Matondo who found the striker ahead of him in the box. It was a neat finish from Dessers as he side footed the ball beyond Marshall for his 11th of the season.
The Light Blues thought they had a fourth goal with five minutes of the match remaining as Ryan Jack found Tom Lawrence in the box and he tapped home, but the linesman raised his flag for offside and following a VAR check the decision was confirmed.
Dessers was denied a second-goal in the final minute of the 90 as Marshall got a leg to a shot to block the strikers’ effort before the Hibs goalkeeper pulled off another good save to prevent Scott Wright from getting on the scoresheet.
Rangers were still pushing to add to the scoring in added time as Wright’s strike from distance was held by Marshall.
The Light Blues now turn their attention to another away match in the Scottish Premiership as they make the short trip to Paisley to face St Mirren on Saturday.
