Despite going behind early in the match, goals from James Tavernier, Fashion Jr, Todd Cantwell and Malik Tillman saw the Light Blues to another three points on the road.
Manager Michael Beale named two changes from last weekend’s Scottish Cup victory over Raith Rovers with Nico Raskin missing out through injury and Borna Barisic back in Croatia awaiting the birth of his first child.
That meant Ridvan came into the starting line-up for the first time since October having recovered from a hamstring injury, with Ryan Jack returning to midfield.
Allan McGregor started in goal with a back four of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Ben Davies and Ridvan in front of him. John Lundstram and Todd Cantwell joined Jack in midfield with Ryan Kent sitting just behind Fashion Jr and Antonio Colak. Malik Tillman, who was on the scoresheet last time out at Fir Park in October, returned to the bench and was joined there by Jon McLaughlin, John Souttar, Ianis Hagi, Glen Kamara, Alfredo Morelos, Scott Wright, Scott Arfield and Adam Devine.
Heading into the match with a strong run of away victories, the Light Blues were looking to head into next week’s international break on a high with an eighth win on the road.
However, with just three minutes on the clock, it was the home side who had the early breakthrough at Fir Park. Dan Casey broke down the right-flank and had space to whip a ball across the face of goal with striker Kevin van Veen tapping beyond Allan McGregor from inside the box.
Rangers had been unable to trouble Liam Kelly in the Motherwell goal in the early stages of this match but with just over 20 minutes on the clock they were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box with Callum Slattery shown a yellow card for a late tackle on John Lundstram.
James Tavernier and Ryan Kent stood over the ball with the captain once again showing his composure from a set-piece as he placed a curling right-footed strike beyond Kelly to draw Rangers level.
Lundstram was denied shortly after as he hit a powerful volley towards goal following positive build-up play from Rangers, but Liam Kelly stood tall to block the strike before Fashion Jr’s rebound effort was just wide of the left-hand post.
In the final minutes of the first-half, Ridvan had a right-footed shot from the edge of the box held by Kelly, before Connor Goldson turned the ball over from a James Tavernier late in the half.
It was a fantastic start to the second-half for Rangers as with just over a minute on the clock they took the lead at Fir Park. James Tavernier was again involved, this time providing the assist as he picked out Fashion Jr in the box and the Zambian, on his 50th league appearance for the club, headed beyond Kelly.
Rangers were looking hungry to build on their advantage as Antonio Colak fired wide from a tight angle before Ryan Kent saw a shot from outside the box held by the Motherwell goalkeeper.
However, it was the home side who were able to get the next goal in this match as they took advantage of a corner in the 59th minute. The ball was swung into the box by James Furlong with James Tavernier getting an initial header, the second ball was not dealt with by Rangers and Motherwell substitute Bevis Mugabi was able to get a touch to send the ball beyond Allan McGregor.
It was an eventful period at Fir Park and Rangers were back ahead in 64th minute. Liam Kelly initially blocked two efforts from Antonio Colak and James Tavernier, respectively, before Todd Cantwell followed up on the rebound to fire home his first Rangers goal from close range.
After the goal, Beale made two changes to his side with Malik Tillman and Alfredo Morelos introduced in place of Fashion Jr and Antonio Colak.
It wasn’t long until the two combined for Rangers’ fourth goal of the afternoon. It was lovely build-up from the Light Blues as Ryan Kent picked out the run of Alfredo Morelos with a neat forward pass. The striker held the ball up at the byline, before cutting it back into the box and into the path of Malik Tillman who made no mistake in striking high into the top corner of the net to give Rangers a 4-2 advantage.
A further change for Rangers with 20 minutes of the match remaining saw Ridvan make way for Scott Arfield.
Motherwell were reduced to 10 men shortly after as Callum Slattery was shown a second yellow card for a challenge on Todd Cantwell.
The final two changes of the afternoon for Gers saw John Souttar and Glen Kamara introduced in place of Todd Cantwell and John Lundstram.
Rangers continued to look dangerous in the final stages of this match as Alfredo Morelos headed over from a Ryan Kent ball.
