Alfredo Morelos’ strike in the second half was the difference between the two sides as the Light Blues again showed super mental strength on a difficult pitch against a good opponent to get the victory.
From the side which impressed in defeating Ross County 5-0 at Ibrox on Saturday, Ryan Jack, who came off the bench to net in that victory, came in to replace Ianis Hagi.
That meant it was a back five of Allan McGregor in goal with James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Fil Helander and Borna Barisic in front of him.
Steven Davis, Glen Kamara and Jack were in midfield, while up front, Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent played in support of Alfredo Morelos.
The visitors started brightly and were almost ahead with only a minute showing on the clock – James Tavernier’s ball from a wide free-kick was met at the front post by Connor Goldson who nodded across goal and wide of target.
The pitch at Easter Road wasn’t in its best condition, but that wasn’t to stop Gers from playing their football – knocking the ball around with real energy.
Joe Aribo pounced on a loose ball to go in on Ofir Marciano, but from just inside the area under pressure Paul McGinn he saw his strike blocked by the goalkeeper.
At the other end, McGregor gathered a flick from Christian Doidge from a Josh Doig ball into the box, while Jackson Irvine fired over a good opportunity from a Doidge cutback.
Ryan Porteous cleared what looked like a net-bound Morelos effort away from danger as Rangers threatened again, but the score remained goalless at the interval.
Into the second half, and Gers again began on the front foot with lots of good play in and around the home penalty area.
Then on 51 minutes, a brilliant Rangers move unpicked the Hibs lock as the visitors stormed into the lead.
Ryan Jack fed Steven Davis around 25-yards out from goal, before Davis flicked it onto Joe Aribo just ahead of him.
Breaking the lines beyond Aribo was Alfredo Morelos, and with another super flick, Aribo found the Colombian to finish emphatically beyond Marciano for his 11th goal of the season.
He came mighty close to a second minutes later, only just turning a Kamara cross over the bar at the back post on the stretch, before Kent put him in with a lovely, lofted ball, but McGinn got back to deny him this time.
Helander headed a Barisic corner off-target, while Kent stung the palms of Marciano from distance after great setup play from a mazy Kamara run.
Substitute Cedric Itten put one into the side netting in injury-time, but again, as they have done so often so far this season, Rangers saw the game out superbly to bring the three points back along the M8.
