Gio Praises Impact of McCann

GIO van Bronckhorst has tonight praised the impact of young midfielder Charlie McCann after his first start in the Rangers first-team.

The 20 year-old Northern Ireland international had a fine game in the middle of the park, an joined fellow Academy graduate Leon King in being handed the opportunity from the off this afternoon.

Speaking to RangersTV afterwards, van Bronckhorst said: "Charlie is developing really well. It is always nice and good to see that you have players coming out of your Academy to play in the first team and I think both deserved to play today and I am really pleased for both their performances."

On the match this afternoon, where Gers claimed a 2-1 victory, the manager continued: "I think it was a very important win for us. In the last weeks, it has been very difficult for us with the results that haven't been going our way.

"But today was all about the three points. We started the game really well and had some good chances in the beginning to already have a two or a three-nil lead only we scored only once but had big chances to score even more.

"I think this game was too close until the end, as with the 2-0 advantage in the second half, we should have extended the lead more and in the last minutes we were under pressure not to concede a second goal."

The manager also cast his eye towards the upcoming international break, with Gers not now having another fixture before they head to Tynecastle in a fortnight.

He added: "We have 10 days with a smaller group than we are used to, but we will take the break to recharge, refresh and get them again fit for the coming games.

"We have a lot of games to be played until the World Cup break."
