Nicola Docherty Signs Contract Extension

RANGERS Football Club are today delighted to announce that Nicola Docherty has signed a two-year contract extension with the club.

The defender, who was named captain at the beginning of the season, has committed her future to the Light Blues.

Born in Falkirk, Docherty joined her hometown club at youth level at the age of the 10, spending eight years with the side before departing for the Gers for her first spell in 2010.

The full-back spent a season with the Gers before making the switch to Glasgow City, enjoying eight years there before returning to Rangers in 2020.

Her successful time on the pitch has saw her represent Scotland at Under-15s, 16s, 17s and 19s, whilst becoming a fully-fledged international making over 50 caps for her country to date.

The captain was also part of the Gers side that claimed their first ever league title in the summer of 2022 before tasting success in the form of the Sky Sports Cup in December in the same year, then going on to lift her first trophy as captain this season as she looks to lead the team to further silverware in the coming seasons ahead.

Speaking after committing her future to Rangers, Docherty said: “I am absolutely delighted to extend my time with Rangers.

“Jo played a big part in me staying, ever since she has walked through the door she been great.”

Women’s head coach, Jo Potter, added: “I am absolutely delighted that Nicola has committed her future to Rangers.

“When I came into the club I asked her to take on the role of captain and it is one she has relished.

“I know it was a childhood dream for her and she has more than surpassed my expectations on and off the park.

“She has played almost every minute under me and that shows how highly I rate her.”

Women’s and Girls’ Managing Director, Donald Gillies, also said: “Rangers is a club that demands success and Nicola has helped lead the team to that this season.

“We are pleased she sees her future with the club that means so much to her. Jo and I were keen to secure Nicola and we are pleased to have her in place to lead the team next season where hopefully she will get her hands on more silverware.”
