Already Northern Ireland’s record caps holder with a staggering 124 outings for the Green and White Army, next month, he could both match and break Peter Shilton’s British caps record of 125. They travel to Italy in World Cup qualifying on March 25 and then host Bulgaria in Belfast six days later.
He's now just 23 matches shy of 800 career appearances, and having only just turned 36 and still performing at a consistent, high-level week-in, week-out, few would bet against that tally ticking even higher.
Of his 653 club appearances to date, almost half – 300 to be precise – have come for his boyhood heroes.
Yes, yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Motherwell perhaps wasn’t quite how Davis would have hoped to mark yet another landmark day in his phenomenal time in the game, but that Gers made it 15 straight Scottish Premiership victories on the bounce going into that Fir Park clash was down in some part to the Antrim man, who featured in 14 of those clashes.
Forgetting for a minute his current role, Steven Gerrard truly was one of the world’s great midfielders in his day, and there are few better qualified to judge a player in that role than the Rangers manager.
“When you work with somebody on a daily basis, you see how they go about their routine,” explained Gerrard.
“You see their focus and how low-maintenance they are and the sacrifices they make to be the best version of themselves.
“Steven is really at the forefront of that.”
You only need to look around the current Rangers team, and indeed, have had a quick look at social media yesterday to realise the esteem he is held in by his teammates both past and present.
He’s not perhaps the Richard Gough or Barry Ferguson type of leader – but more the type to lead by example.
While it came in perhaps the most difficult season in Rangers’ 149-year history, he has had the honour of being the club captain in 2011/12.
He led Northern Ireland to their first major tournament in 30 years – Euro 2016 – and was a standout both in qualifying and in the finals in France where he helped them defy the odds to reach the knockout stages.
He also captained Southampton in the Premier League, and but for some magic from Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the dying minutes, may well have led the Saints up the Wembley steps in the 2017 League Cup final south of the border.
Forgetting that, though, he is a winner. Three Scottish titles, two Scottish Cups and three League Cups tell you that – with a goal in the 2011 League Cup final and a successful penalty in the 2008 version to boot.
He also has the distinction of having represented Rangers in a European Final – the 2008 UEFA Cup final in Manchester – having been outstanding on the journey to get there.
It’s been a while since he has held anything of a shiny variety in his grasp – but there is no doubt his aim will be to do just that before this season is out.

Walter Smith was responsible for all the major honours won in Davis’ career to date, and perhaps demonstrated Davis’ versatility best – often deploying him on the right of midfield as opposed to in the middle of the park.
Indeed, with an injury crisis prior to facing Manchester United in the Champions League in November 2010, he even pitched Davis in at right wing-back. While the result didn’t go the way of Gers on that chill November night, it wasn’t really a surprise Davis came through personally with flying colours.
“For those of us that know Steven and have been fortunate enough to work with him,” Smith said recently, “everything about him has been great.
“I don’t know anybody who has one word of criticism to say about Steven Davis.”
And they don’t – no matter where he has played in his career. One of his former managers at Southampton – and now PSG boss, Mauricio Pochettino told Sky Sports last year: "The talent of him I compare to football people like Xavi and [Andreas] Iniesta.
"I think how humble he is, that it is the most you can appreciate in a professional. He is a simple guy, a family guy, a good friend and we feel very proud and lucky to have spent time with him. He is a big player and a big person."
Southampton also saw Gers’ Sporting Director Ross Wilson cross paths with Davis for the first time when both were on the South Coast.
“It’s been a pleasure to work closely with Steven over the last six seasons at Saints and at Rangers.” explained Wilson. “The example he set day-in, day-out was fantastic for the younger players at Southampton, and the same is so true at Rangers now.
“He is a pleasure to work with, and you won’t find anyone at Rangers saying differently.”
All those club honours. All those personal honours (which include an MBE, by the way). All those tributes from managers and teammates past and present.
And by no stretch, is Steven Davis done yet.
