RANGERS Academy had a number of players proudly representing their nations across the last seven days on international duty.
Here’s a round up of how our young players fared:
Calum Adamson, Lewis Stewart and Alfie Halliwell – Scotland Under-19s
Italy Under-19s 1-1 Scotland Under-19s – Friday 10 October – Friendly
Italy Under-19s 1-0 Scotland Under-19s – Monday 13 October – Friendly
Adamson scored Scotland’s only goal across the two friendly matches against Italy this international window.
Indeed, it was a fantastic finish from the midfielder, currently on loan at Alloa Athletic, as he fired an emphatic finish into the top corner to draw the young Scots level in the first match.
Between the posts in the opening game was also Alfie Halliwell, while Lewis Stewart was involved.
Josh Gentles – Wales Under-19s
Wales Under-19s 2-5 Switzerland Under-19s – Wednesday 8 October – Friendly
Wales Under-19s 2-0 Netherlands Under-19s – Saturday 11 October – Friendly
Wales Under-19s 0-7 England Under-19s – Tuesday 14 October – Friendly
Josh was involved for Wales Under-19s across their friendly triple header in Spain.
After a pair of substitute appearances in the opening two outings, including helping his side to an impressive win over the Netherlands, the 18-year-old was given the nod from the off against England yesterday.
However, the young Lions showed their class in an emphatic triumph, which included a goal for our on-loan winger Mikey Moore.
Callum Burnside and Blaine McClure – Northern Ireland Under-19s
USA Under-19s 4-0 Northern Ireland Under-19s – Saturday 11 October – Friendly
Northern Ireland Under-19s 2-2 Switzerland Under-19s – Tuesday 14 October – Friendly
Callum and Blaine were involved across both games for Northern Ireland in their tune-up for next month’s European Championship qualifiers.
The Green and White Army tasted defeat to the USA on Saturday afternoon, in which Blaine captained his country, before they responded strongly against a talented Switzerland side to come away with a 2-2 draw yesterday.
