Smith was joined in the matchday squad by Under-19s teammates Josh Gentles, Lewis Stewart and Arran Kerr in what was a valuable experience for the quartet of youngsters in Portugal.
Speaking to RangersTV earlier this week after the Under-19s played out a 2-2 draw with Hibernian in league action, the 17-year-old said of his individual ambitions: "I want to develop my numbers. I want to make sure I'm adding goals and assists to my game.
"I've been working on it in training, so hopefully it's starting to pay off in the games.
"I've probably adjusted to the physical side. It's taken me a while to get used to it, but I think I'm in a good place now and I'm pushing on now."
The point against the capital club means the Gers sit top of the table by virtue of goal difference, albeit level points with St. Mirren and Hibs having played two more games than the latter.
On the Under-19s' hunger to lift silverware, Smith continued: "We're really motivated and want to win the league.
"At a club like Rangers we want to win trophies and the league, so we need to make sure we win as many games as we can.
"We had an upset in the Youth Cup, but we still have three more trophies to play for. We're hoping we can win them and it's important that we do at a club like this."
Smith was an impressive performer once again for Liam Ross' side, who led twice in the game before being pegged back.
The midfielder believes Rangers should have put their foot on the pedal more in the first half when they were in the ascendancy but says it's a case of taking the point and moving forward.
He added: "I thought in the first half we controlled the game. We came out in the second half and Hibs came out a bit more aggressive.
"They went man-to-man on us and I don't think we dealt with that well enough. Both teams had chances, but we come out the game with a point.
"We're a little disappointed, but we move on.
"The game probably could have went either way, but we really should have punished them in the first half than what we did.
"We didn't get the three points that we wanted before the game, but we take the draw and move on to next week where we need to make sure we win."
