The young forward only celebrated his 16th birthday last month – and was born after Walter Smith’s Rangers side reached the UEFA Cup final – but he made a strong impression for Stevie Smith’s Under-19s side.
Hutchison’s first goal was a smart finish from inside the penalty area, while he added to his tally in the second period with a strike across the Spiders goalkeeper and into the bottom corner.
Speaking to RangersTV after the game, the teenager commented: “It’s a really good [feeling].
“It was my debut in the tournament, so it was really good to start off with two goals.
“The first one has just fell to me inside the six-yard box and it was about just my touch, turn and finishing on target.
“I can play both through the middle and off the sides, both as well as each other.”
It was a first exposure to Under-19s football for the 16-year-old this afternoon, playing alongside the relative experience of Findlay Curtis, Paul Nsio and Zander Hutton.
And Hutchison reckons it was an experience which is only going to benefit his development going forward.
He added: “I felt it was a lot quicker and more physical.
“You don’t really get as much time on the ball, so it’s important to be able to think quicker.
“The younger that you can get this experience means you can learn even quicker. It was brilliant.
“It’s good to play alongside [Curtis, Nsio and Hutton] because they can act as a role model and help you throughout the game.
“It helps you through everything going forward and it’ll be good [for my development].”
