Having made his debut for the club back in 2002, he has shown remarkable longevity in his career to still being able to perform at the highest level. Indeed, he featured on the Rangers first-team bench as long ago as January 1999.
He grinned when asked what convinced him to stay on for another year – and revealed some of the reasons why he is still at the top of his game 19 years on from his professional debut.
"I didn't really need convincing,” McGregor told RangersTV. “It was more that my body felt okay and performances seemed okay, so why not?
"Throughout your career, you pick up advice from physios, nutritionists and coaches etc., and every bit of that helps.
"You take a bit of everything and use it to what suits you. That is what I have been doing and it has been going okay."
McGregor has played a massive role in securing title 55 this season with a string of fabulous saves to keep the club’s incredible domestic defensive record intact.
He is so proud to be a winner again here – although he insists securing the Championship hasn’t changed his outlook on always wanting to win more prizes.
"It was monumental,” he continued. “I know a lot of Rangers fans all over the world and what is means to them over the last period of time not to have won anything - and me as well.
"All the boys in here, I know what it meant to them - the manager, all the staff and everybody in the club, so it was a massive occasion.
"It didn't give me a new hunger as I have always been hungry. I have thought about that day for the last two-and-a-half to three years - it maybe overtook my life a bit and I thought about it too much, and I don't know if that's healthy or not!
"But we have done it and it was a special occasion.
"It has got to give you confidence - it's not going to send you in the other direction.
"To experience that and what it means to everybody, and experience it as a group in winning something, it has got to give you confidence and push you on for more and have more success."
