Goals from Robbie Ure, Connor Allan, Zak Lovelace and Ross McCausland capped off a positive afternoon’s work for the Light Blues, who were equally impressive from a defensive standpoint in shutting out their opponents on their home patch.
Speaking to RangersTV after the victory, the young defender was pleased at the collective defensive effort from his side: “It was a brilliant performance from the boys today. I thought everyone to a man was excellent, and even the substitutes that came on were brilliant and brought energy. To get a clean sheet and three points away to a tough Bo’ness side, we’ll be happy looking back on it.
“Clean sheets are the main thing you look for in the game as a defender because we know we have enough quality in attack to score goals. We know that if we get a clean sheet we have a good chance of winning the game.
“Me and Connor [Allan] have to stay switched on, and when Lewis [MacKinnon] came on he played well too. We can go up the road really happy that we’ve got a clean sheet today, and the attacking players have done their job.”
With several players absent as a result of involvement in the first-team squad, Allen was part of a rejigged backline as he took his place alongside Connor Allan at the heart of defence.
The young defender has featured at U18s level this term, and he also insists that the experience of stepping up into the Lowland League is aiding his development as an individual.
He added: “There’s two players per position so you have to train well every day to get yourself in the team on matchday. Everyone has to train at their best.
“It’s brilliant [to play in the Lowland League]. You’re playing against men each week, and that’s the main thing. These guys have more experience than you, but it’s how you learn and it’s helping me a lot.”
