The young Gers triumphed 4-2 over Blackpool Under-21s at the Rangers Training Centre, courtesy of goals from Ross McCausland, Arron Lyall, Josh McPake and Paul Nsio.
Speaking to RangersTV after the victory, Allen reflected on his side’s display: “I think overall it’s good to get the win. We took our time getting into the game, but once we did, we started to play our style and done well.
“However, the last 15 minutes we could have been a little bit sharper. They came into the game, and for our standards, we could have done better, but it’s good to get the victory in the end.
“You look at Arron’s goal and it was top quality, likewise Josh’s and the first goal is a brilliant team goal, so when we look at the goals we’ll be really happy. We could have tightened up with the goals we conceded.”
Allen lined up alongside captain Johnly Yfeko at the heart of the Gers defence, with the latter having featured for the first-team over pre-season.
The 17-year-old was full of praise for his defensive partner’s game nous, with the pair helping the Light Blues play through heavy Blackpool pressure in possession.
He added: “It’s always good when some of the first-team players drop down who are a little bit older. He was talking to me the full game which was good, and you always learn from the older players coming down to play.
“We need to trust ourselves, because if we don’t then we can’t expect to play through pressure. We need to have trust in each other and play at the speed that we do in training because there’s no reason why we can’t do it in games.”
