With the well documented issues Gers have faced in the build-up to the match, a number of the youth players have joined the squad, with Arfield insisting the Light Blues will get their heads down to get the job done against Alashkert in Europa League qualifying tomorrow afternoon.
He told tonight’s press conference in Armenia: "It is what it is and it is not an ideal situation, of course, but every club around the country has been affected by this virus.
"We still have a strong squad over here with the addition of the young boys getting some experience so we need to take the positives out of it rather than the negatives.
"We have all been in that situation - maybe not on a European adventure, but they are the lucky ones and find themselves with us and they will gain invaluable experience going forward seeing how the senior players perform in the lead-up to this game.
"So it is great for everybody, more so the young lads and hopefully we can get the right result."
Manager Steven Gerrard has not travelled to Yerevan, but Arfield insists the players won’t be affected by that, continuing: "It won't be too much different. Of course, you want your leader and your manager on the side, but he can't play the game for you, so I think you need to take responsibility and he can give you instructions and as much as you want before games - but ultimately, it is the players who go over the line to perform.
"You would rather him and all the staff be here, of course, but ultimately, it is the players who go out there and perform so we need to take the desired result back and hopefully have big European nights back a Ibrox."
Arfield, as one of the more experienced members of the group, knows he and his fellow experienced players will have a bigger role than normal in a time like this, and he added:
"Probably more so than normal, and it is all about us to steady the ship. But what an amazing opportunity - we have a huge game tomorrow night and you can look at any negatives you want as that is what people are probably writing about - how many players are missing.
"But if you look at the ability and the mentality we have got around us, we are certainly in a good place for tomorrow night, that is for sure."
