McAllister: We'll Field A Strong Line Up

GARY McALLISTER insists Rangers will still be able to field a very strong line-up in Armenia tomorrow night against Alashkert.

Gers hold a 1-0 advantage going into the second leg of this Europa League play-off, and despite the well-reported issues going into the match, McAllister is confident the XI can get the job done.

Speaking at this evening’s press conference from the Armenian capital, McAllister explained: "When you see the team tomorrow, you will look at it and say, 'that team can play in most games.'

"We have had some great times in Europe over the last two or three years, and the team that we field, we feel is capable of going and getting a result.

"I think we are capable of owning the ball - and by that, I mean enjoying good possession but my feeling is we can go and score goals as well and we have got to be really, really on the front foot and be looking to go and add to our advantage."

With neither Jon McLaughlin or Allan McGregor in the traveling party today, goalkeeper Robby McCrorie could make his competitive debut for the club.

McAllister has no fears about McCrorie playing, and he continued: "I did a piece recently about Robby and I have been impressed since day one of pre-season.

"He is a young man who was pretty shy - a towering guy but very quiet, and I think since we came back for pre-season, we have seen a different Robby.

"That has been enhanced by the fact he went out and played last season at Livingston so gained some invaluable experience in the Premier League in Scotland.

"But what I have noticed is he has become more confident round the first-team players - he is more chatty and he is first in every morning and is a keeper that works like the players I have played with.

"He is a real workhorse and there is just more confidence about Robby in and around him as a man, and it has been nice to see that maturity. He is someone who is coming out of his shell and actually maybe for the first time thinking, 'I belong here'."

Likewise, a number of Academy players have been drafted in to supplement the squad, with McAllister adding: "We have some youngsters who have come from the B Team and have impressed recently and have impressed when they have come over and trained with the first team, and we are confident, if we get in a nice position, all of them can go on the pitch.

"If that was the case, that would be massive for them, and already, it is a great experience for these younger guys to have come and joined the training today and then traveling after, it has probably been a first for all of them.

"But they are well capable and we are very confident in these young players."
