Kerr, 18, has made his home on the right-hand side of the defence in recent years but performed impressively alongside Connor Campbell to help the young Gers to a clean sheet in a resounding 4-0 win.
Speaking to RangersTV after the triumph, the teenager commented: "I've played as a central defender a couple of games now and I'm getting used to it.
"There's definitely a bit of onus to be good on the ball, but we're all good at that. As defenders we've done it for years, stepping out with the ball and playing through the lines, so we're comfortable.
"I didn't play as much as I wanted in the first year, but I played pretty much every minute in the second year and gained valuable experience. It'll definitely help me this season."
The Gers took a while to get going against their Edinburgh visitors but broke the deadlock through Alex Smith on the stroke of half-time.
Three goals were then plundered in an excellent second half display as the side kicked off their league campaign in fine fashion.
He added: "We didn't start the best, but I thought we grew into the game. We played well and scored a couple of good goals at the end. It was good to keep the clean sheet as well.
"It was an even first half and [scoring] before half-time it gave us a bit of momentum, and a couple of substitutes came on in the second half and really changed the game.
"[Stevie Smith] was saying more of the same [at half-time]. There were certain things in the build that probably could have been better, but the subs came on, done well, and we saw the game out."
