The manager, speaking at his pre-match press conference at the club’s training centre this morning, confirmed that Alfredo Morelos could be recalled after the Colombian was left out of the squad for last weekend’s league fixture with Kilmarnock at Ibrox.
New signings Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe both started that game, with the latter scoring, meaning Gerrard will have firepower both in his starting eleven and on the bench for the important 90 minutes against Brian Rice’s Accies, who currently sit ninth in the Premiership table.
Providing an injury update first, the Light Blues boss started: “Jermain Defoe and Joe Aribo won't make the Hamilton game but both should be ready for the game after.
"Leon Balogan is back and trained fully yesterday and will train again fully this morning, so we will assess his situation before we make a decision in terms of the squad.
"Allan McGregor has had no reaction and has trained fully all week, so there are two bits of positive news but unfortunately Joe and Jermain won't make the weekend."
When asked about the attacking positions in his team for tomorrow’s big game and who could start, he continued: “As a manager, you analyse the players on a daily basis and you pick the players you think are capable of going to get you the right result.
“You don't pick on name or reputation, you pick the players who are training hard, are focused, are listening and are taking messages on board and that are going to give your team a better chance for you to get the right results.
"Last week we made a decision for the benefit of the team and the squad and in terms of Cedric and Kemar I thought their application was really good and I was really happy with the performance considering it was the first start.
"I think there were real, positive signs with Kemar getting off the mark and Cedric's work-rate, so there were a lot of positives in terms of those two as a partnership, but also individually as well.
"What I will say is we are in much better shape from an attacking point of view in terms of options to use.
"We're not heavily reliant on one person, and I am hoping to have Jermain Defoe ready after the break as well. So I welcome the tough decisions in that area of the pitch.”
Rangers have recorded four wins and a draw in their five league outings so far in 2020/21 and have yet to concede a goal, but Gerrard wants his side to retain their focus.
He added: "I am certainly very happy with the start we have made. I think, obviously, we have had just the one blip at Livingston where we weren't able to find the breakthrough, that's probably one negative.
"We had a very strong pre-season and we have taken our form into the domestic competition, so it has been a solid start, a strong start, but I think it is very early days in terms of comparing us to where we are from previous seasons.
"For us, it's just to remain focused and take every challenge as it comes - we would normally look at the table after maybe eight to 10 games to get a real, good gauge of where we are at.
"I think after five games, it is still early days to make that prediction."
