The head coach has set a target of 15 points from the five split fixtures which begin in Paisley, and he wants his players to meet it head on and show they want to be part of the club moving forward.
Speaking to the press at this afternoon’s pre-match press conference, Ferguson said: “This week has been pretty positive. I have given the players a challenge, we have got five games to go, and I want 15 points.
“I am clear on that, and they understand that, the training week has been really good so we will wait and see what happens tomorrow. We are going to a place where it is going to be difficult, we know they are a very well organised team with some very good players and a very good manager so we will expect a tough game.
“There are certain attributes you need to be a Rangers player because you are under pressure. There are demands and expectations, every time you cross that white line, you are expected to win games, you're expected to win trophies and if you don't you are going to come in for the criticism and when you get that criticism you need to handle it.
“I came in for a lot of criticism [as a player] and it's not nice but it made me even more determined to go and prove a lot of people wrong and that is what the players need to do in these five games. They need to go and show they want to be part of this club going forward.”
With Dujon Sterling facing a long-term injury, Ferguson also revealed Ridvan will miss the remainder of the season while Leon Balogun and Tom Lawrence will be out of tomorrow’s squad.
When asked if the injury situation could open up opportunities for some younger members of the squad, he said they need to earn their chance in training but insisted he is not scared to reward them with game time.
He continued: “We have got a few injuries, and another one or two that only trained part of the training session. I just need to wait and see who is available. It is about winning the last five games of the season, but you will find out if I give young players the opportunity.
“You have seen over the last three or four weeks I am not scared to give a young player an opportunity but as I said they need to show me enough in training and if they do that they'll certainly be given a chance.”
When asked about his own future at the club, Ferguson insisted his focus is still on the short term and the next few weeks ahead.
He added: “If I get the job I will make my club a better club, if I don't get the job, I'll still support my club - that's the way I am looking at it.
“I have five games to go, and my focus is on these next few weeks. We have had a few bumps since I came in, I knew that was going to be the case, but I wasn't frightened of that, I know what this club needs.
“I just looked at it as a three-month period when I was brought in to help the club, because it was clear there were a lot of issues. I never looked at it long-term, I looked at it more short-term to come in and try and sort some things. Have I done that, yeah, I have but there's also other things that still need improving but you can't do that over a short period of time.”
