It was defender Davies’ first start since the 1-0 win over Aberdeen in May and he says a solid performance and a clean sheet topped off a good afternoon’s work.
He said: “It was good to be back, I thought my fitness was good and I felt strong.
“I trained a lot during the international break and I felt great.
“When I knew I was playing I wanted us to be solid and keep a clean sheet and he have done that.
“It is my first 90 minutes since last season, it has been a long time and it is nice to be back.
“We controlled the game really well and limited them to not much and created chances and scored two good goals.
“It is a step in the right direction and hopefully we can go on a good run.”
Michael Beale’s side dominated from start to finish, with No1 Jack Butland not having a save to make.
It was the perfect preparation for Thursday Europa League opener against Spanish side Real Betis at Ibrox.
Having sampled European football last season, Davies knows how special the atmosphere is at home.
He can’t wait to test himself against the La Liga outfit and says the win in Perth was the perfect warm up for the opening group game.
He added: “We have a few days recovery until the next game and we want to go again.
“The win was massively important and the most important game is always the next one.
“To bounce back from a disappointing result was crucial and we sent the fans home happy.
“We can look forward to Thursday, under the lights at Ibrox is special. It is important that we put in a performance.”
