The Croatian international, who signed from NK Osijek last summer, admits he never thought he would feel as settled as he now does at Ibrox after a stop-start beginning to his Gers career.
Barisic has been a key part of Steven Gerrard’s team since the 2019/20 campaign kicked off though, cementing the left-back berth as his own.
Speaking to RangersTV the 27-year-old said: “I am very happy to extend my contract here; I have spent a nice year and a half here so far so hopefully the next four are the same.
“I want to thank our Sporting Director Ross Wilson and everyone on the board at Rangers Football Club.
“I would also like to thank the staff I work with every day, our manager Steven Gerrard and my teammates, who have helped me get to this points.
“I feel very good here, very happy and very pleased with the team and how we have progressed.
“I think that I have an opportunity to progress further here so there are a few reasons why I stay here.
Barisic has played 30 times for the Gers so far this season, impressing by adding crucial numbers to the team, including seven Premiership assists and five in the UEFA Europa League. He has scored twice.
His performances have earned him rave reviews and won the hearts of the Rangers fans who have given him his own chant. A clip of the Croatian went viral after he sang the song for a broadcaster while being interviewed.
He continued: “I have a special feeling here, you feel like you are part of one big family here. Not only my teammates and the people around the club but it is about the fans too.
“At the start the fans accepted me nicely and then I had a couple of injuries and of course people were maybe a little bit angry with me because I know that they know what I was capable of and that I could play very good football.
“Last season I didn’t show that but when we started to play this season I showed everything that I can and I have the fans now on my side again and I have my own song.
“I am never singing my song again on camera because I watched it back and it was embarrassing!
“Last season was a really hard time for me, even when I played I didn’t play well and I was very unhappy because I knew I could play a lot better.
“I was injured and physically not at the level I could be at or needed to be. I was unhappy but now I am happy they recognise my progress.”
