The Light Blues sit on a massively impressive 50 points after playing 19 of their 38 games in the Scottish Premiership, and while they are second in the table, two points behind Celtic, Gers have a game in hand.
Europe too has been outstanding, with Gerrard’s men reaching post-Christmas football in the Europa League for the first time since Walter Smith took the Ibrox men there in 2011.
Gerrard has been speaking to RangersTV today at their winter training camp in Dubai, and he explained: “We are satisfied and we are content with where we are right now domestically. We have obviously got a game in hand which we will deal with when it comes around.
“I am really pleased with that – Braga will be tough opposition but when that comes round we will be ready with a plan to try and get through again.
“We are sitting where we want to be in the League, but there is a lot of hard work and a lot of games to play, and it is important we try to build on the form we left in December.
“So yes, I will say I am really happy and pleased right now, but I think it is important we are humble and we respect the challenge and the challenges that are going to come our way.
That first-half of the season culminated, of course, with the club’s first Old Firm victory at Parkhead in over nine years.
It’s a day which will live long in the memory of supporters, with Gerrard so proud of the way his men carried out the game-plan.
“It was a fantastic performance by the players,” he continued. “We wanted them to go into Celtic Park and be really brave and bold and really take the game to Celtic, which is what we did in the Cup Final – we never got our rewards and we never took our big moments in the game.
“That still doesn’t sit well with myself or the players as we don’t think we got our rewards that day.
“But it was about resetting it and resetting the game-plan and the approach, and forgetting the atmosphere and where we were playing the game and just taking the challenge head-on.
“We could have got even bigger rewards in terms of the result as we felt like their goal went against us and we also had some really, really good opportunities towards the back end of the game to go and build on the advantage we had.
“It was a superb performance – obviously the first time we had won at Celtic Park for a very long time and that should bring belief and confidence to the players moving forward.”
Gers found themselves in a similar league position at this time last season, albeit this year, their points total is significantly higher.
“We are a better team now than we were 12 months ago,” continued the manager.
“Celtic have improved their points total as well and they have been consistent. I think you have to pay credit where it is due, so it is important we keep the same focus and if anything, we are more hungry and more determined and more ready in the second half of the season.
“We have tried to adjust these next few weeks and have them slightly different to last year as we weren’t happy, obviously, with the Kilmarnock result from last year.”
