The young Gers assistant coach outlined what he is anticipating ahead of their Lowland League tie with the Galashiels side as they travel to another away ground and highlighted the challenges the visit may pose on the squad. He said: “Firstly, I think it will be good to get another game. The lads are looking strong and have an appetite to go play another match.
“We’ve looked at Gala in preparation for the weekend, they’ve had some good results recently. It will be a testing one for the players but one that we are welcoming.
“Adapting is the key word. Travelling to different grounds provides different challenges. I think going away and experiencing what it’s going to be like playing against teams at their own ground is appealing.
“The part that has been nice in the last while has been having the atmosphere with fans, I think that the players are really enjoying experiencing that.”
Gilmour continued by highlighting the strength in squad depth and variety, including the opportunity the youngsters have to showcase their skills and abilities. He continued: “I think it is pleasing to have that variety of depth amongst the B team squad, but for me it always boils down to opportunity.
“It’s always a chance to perform and show yourself in the best light but that’s not just down to the games that needs to come across in training too. The players have got that opportunity day in and out to show that.
“It’s certainly pleasing that they’ve got the impact that they go make, and that is the message that we always ask want to push. It’s been pleasing to see players come on in recent weeks and have an impact and it’s something moving forward that we want to continue.”
The B Team have now had several days since their last competitive game, and Gilmour insists this has benefited the youngsters ahead of their upcoming fixtures. He added: “It gives us that opportunity to look at what we want to improve at the training ground and spend more time training both collectively and individually.
“It gives us time amongst our busy fixture lists. We’re focused no matter what period of time we are in.”
