Steven Gerrard: "A Big Three Points At Stake"

RANGERS will go into tomorrow’s Scottish Premiership match at Dundee ‘feeling good about ourselves’ – according to boss Steven Gerrard.

The Light Blues are off the back of qualifying for the Premier Sports Cup semi-final with a win over Livingston in midweek, but now all the focus is on retaining their place as league leaders at Dens tomorrow.

Speaking at today’s press conference, Gerrard said: "There are a big three points at stake - that is the main focus for us. Dundee have come up and are just finding their feet in the league if you like.

"But we understand it will be a tough game - last time we went there we dropped a couple of points so we know every away game in this league can be a different type of challenge, so it is one we need to be ready for.

"But, we go in feeling good about ourselves after reaching the semi-final in midweek.

"We are always striving to get better - even last year when we were in good form, we were always still looking to tweak and improve and we are always going to drive these players individually and collectively, we are not going to come off them.

"We have a real, good group who have settled down - it was tough at the beginning of the season with people returning at different times and we had some Covid issues and some injury issues.

"But the squad is just settling down a bit now, we are healthy after the midweek game and we have no new injuries to report so things are settling a little bit and we are top of the league, in the last four [of the cup] so the boys are doing okay but, I still feel we have another level to go into which is a real, good place for me to be in."

The manager also gave his thoughts on Glen Kamara extending his deal with the club until 2025.

He added: "I have said on many occasions it is important at a club like Rangers that you try and keep your best players here for as long as possible.

"We all understand how the club works, but Glen is someone who fits into our style really, really well - he has evolved, he has improved and he has grown a lot since we took him from Dundee - he had a real, good schooling at Arsenal and under Neil McCann at Dundee, so we knew we were plucking a player to suit our style.

"But Glen has come in and worked ever-so hard to improve his game and I think it has got to a level now where people are really appreciating what type of player he is and what level he can perform at.

"Glen makes our XI stronger, he makes this squad stronger and it is obviously very pleasing news for me - it is one we have been working in the background ever-so hard on, so credit to the club for getting that one over the line."
