Cyriel Dessers’ first half strike proved the difference as the Gers left Paisley with all three points.
Butland knows they weren’t as free-flowing as in the midweek win over Hibernian, but he insists it was mission accomplished.
Speaking to Rangers TV, he said: “We got the job done. We came here to get three points and a clean sheet and we did that.
“We will look back at this as a game as one we achieved what we wanted to.
“We didn’t play the way we wanted, but in this league you have different tests and it was different to Wednesday against Hibs where we could play more football on a better surface in better conditions.
“It is a sign of how we are growing. We created openings without too many chances but it was a great finish from Cyriel and we got the result we wanted.
“The conditions didn’t allow us to get it down and play the passes we want to in tighter areas.
“You have to adapt and play to the conditions. We would be naïve if we thought we could play the same way we did the other night.”
It was another clean sheet for the England international, making it 11 shutouts in the 20 games he has played under gaffer Philippe Clement.
He believes it is down to the whole team and says it helps keep them on target for hopefully a successful campaign.
He added: “It is a good sign when you are keeping clean sheets.
“We believe we will create chances and score goals, so for us at the back, it is important to keep clean sheets.
“The way we defended, the duals they had, we won and managed to come out on top.
“We are developing as a team. You have seen boys who have been out injured, we have had some new signings come in but we are growing.
“We have an end goal of what we want to achieve, but we have to take it one game at a time.”
