Cyriel Dessers’ 14th minute strike was the difference in the match and despite the narrow scoreline, the Gers boss felt his side were in control as they took maximum points in the match.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, Clement said: “It was not the sexiest game clearly, but it is impossible in these circumstances to play good football with the wind and that kind of pitch, but the most important thing is that the team adapted to the circumstances.
“We won the game in a good, controlled way and tried to push for the second goal. We were really close with a good effort by Cyriel and a few other moments, but we were never really in trouble.
“The team is becoming more and more mature in all circumstances. For me, I said after the Hibs game it was propaganda for good football with two teams playing good football on a good pitch. Today was the opposite, this is not what people want to see but, in the end, it is about winning games and we have to adapt to circumstances and all the boys did so that is the most important and going home with the three points.
“If you cannot do that you cannot win titles or trophies, you need this resilience, you need this adaptation, mentality and personality. It is about creating winners and I see more and more winners in the dressing room, that is also the reason why they are taking more and more points.”
For Dessers it was his third goal of the week, taking his tally for the season to 12, but Clement insists it is not all about goals for his strikers.
He continued: “I am really happy with the way he has evolved in these three months together, I am also happy with Fabio [Silva] and the way he is adapting to the team. It will be important that we keep the two of them in a really good place to be decisive all season because they have a really important role.
“It is not only about scoring goals, because ok Cyriel scored the goal today but he was also very important in link-up play and keeping balls in front so that is also important it is not only about scoring for me with the strikers.”
With three victories this week over Dumbarton, Hibernian and now St Mirren, Clement is happy with how his side have returned from the winter break.
He added: “I am really happy about that because a lot of people told me at the end of December and beginning of January the team had a reputation of being slow starters in the second part of the season so that was a challenge to take, and they took it in a good way.
“It is difficult circumstances, the cup game in Dumbarton was chaotic, Hibs was a totally different game and then today so I hope this creates even more hunger for the next weeks and months to whatever the circumstances are to be there as a team and then we can have an amazing season.”
