The Academy coach was delighted to see the Young Gers secure their place in the Cup final after reflecting on their positive performance tonight.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV following the U18’s semi final win, he said: “We’re just really happy for the boys, they’ve worked really hard this week and we’ve set them some targets and some different things going into this game because we knew that Hibs are a really difficult opponent, they’re top of the league, so we’re just really pleased that all their hard work put in over the week has come into fruition tonight.
“We just wanted them to keep doing the same things, we knew we created a lot of chances in the first half, and we were just unlucky they never took. It was just about doing the same thing, believing in what we were trying to do and believing in us. The big message today was key moments from key players, and can we be a Rangers team? We knew if we did that enough we could go and get the result.
“We challenge the boys in training all the time, we try and do things that will challenge them mentally because it’s a massive part of the game – they’ve got to come to places and show composure. We were 2-1 down in the last 20 minutes so the message was to keep the calmness and not get too distracted too quickly.”
Campbell added that the squad are looking ahead to their upcoming final at Hampden and outlined what their preparations will be like ahead of the fixture.
He continued: “The boys are really happy that they’ve put themselves in that position, it’s a great showcase to go and play at Hampden in the final live on TV, the boys just need to make sure that they work really hard to get into that starting 11 on final day.
“[Preparations] will be similar to what we do, we’re still teaching and development so, at this stage at U18’s we’re looking at that winning element at Rangers – you can’t get away from that.
“We do challenge the boys in certain moments to go and win games because they need to learn that pressure to get to that first team. The day-to-day stuff will still stay really similar, it’s about development and we’ll go into the game and do our best to try and win the trophy.”
