Chris Eadie Embracing B Team Challenge

CHRIS EADIE says he’s relishing the step-up to the B Team this season as he looks to continue his development in 2025.

The 17-year-old has split his time between Steven Smith’s Under-18s group and Gers B this campaign, featuring in the side’s respective SPFL Trust Trophy and Glasgow Cup campaigns.

It is reward for the teenager’s fine goalscoring form on league duty with the Under-18s, and Eadie believes his game is all the better for exposure to a higher level of football.

Speaking to the official website, Eadie reflected: “I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s been good to get the challenge with the B Team, with older players who are more experienced.

“You play against a lot of men’s teams who have played at higher levels and all know what they’re doing.

“There’s also the physical challenge which comes with that and you need to find different ways to play.

“It’s also been good to play at my own age with the Under-18s and being able to express myself and score goals.

“I feel more confident due to my size at Under-18s level to go and express myself because there are things you need to do with the B Team at a quicker pace and you don’t get away with as much.

“Whereas at Under-18s level I’m able to express myself more and do things that you wouldn’t necessarily try against older players.

“We’ve had to come back in some games; we were losing against St. Mirren until the 85th minute and I scored two which was good on a personal note.

“You need to be more switched on at B Team level and able to use your strengths because you tend to play against bigger and more experienced players.

“It’s something that really helps me, going between both teams, and it gives me more experience and I can use things when I drop down with Under-18s against boys who haven’t really experienced men’s football.”

Eadie tasted success last month as he was part of the Gers B squad who lifted the Glasgow Cup in Mount Florida.

The 17-year-old was a half-time substitute as Rangers left it late to grab victory over their Old Firm rivals.

It was a second piece of silverware of the year for Eadie, who also played a significant role in the Under-18s’ Scottish Youth Cup triumph over Aberdeen at Hampden Park last May.

The forward, however, played less than a minute in the Youth Cup final at the national stadium, and says it was a special feeling to directly contribute to the team’s Glasgow Cup success at the final hurdle this time around.

He added: “It was a really good experience. I wasn’t expecting to be in the squad.

“I hadn’t trained the day before, but I got the message from David [McCallum] the night before. I was really excited and it’s a huge game.

“I wasn’t really expecting to play at all at that point, but David had spoken to me before the game about keeping my head in the game because there’s a chance that I’ll come on at half-time.

“I was on the bench for the start and about ten minutes before half-time I was told I was going on at half-time.

“I was trying to get myself prepared and ready to go. It was a tough game and they were a solid team, so I was excited for the challenge.

“I didn’t actually get many touches, but I felt it wasn’t a game for that.

“We went wide a lot and once we got the goal we sat in a little bit. It was a really good experience being involved and it was good to celebrate it.

“I won the Scottish Cup last season with the Under-18s, but I didn’t really play in the final. It was really good to contribute and play a full half in the game.”
