The Gers boss says he has witnessed the impact the supporters can have on pushing the players to their best level in recent matches and is hoping for more of the same in another crucial league fixture.
Speaking to the media at this afternoon’s pre-match press conference, Clement said: “Hearts are a team with a lot of quality, they are well organised, they count on a very important player to score more than 50 percent of their goals and have the third best defence in the league which proves they are well organised.
“For us it will be about breaking open that wall, to be dominant but not to be naive, and not to give transitions and set-pieces because they are strong in that also.
With just eight league goals conceded under Clement and 43 scored in 18 league matches, the manager has been delighted with the defensive record of late.
He insists it is a whole squad effort and says he can continue to see the group growing on the training pitch and in matches.
Clement continued: “It is crucial because if you give shots, chances and goals away you give hope and belief to opponents. I want to see a dominant, attacking football team but always staying in our structure so that we don't give away easy things.
“That is a challenge with so many people in attack to not give away chances, but the players understand the story and they are doing that better and better, but it doesn't mean we won’t get shots against. I don't expect the game tomorrow where we don't get shots against, this cannot be the case against a team of the quality of Hearts, but we are also really ambitious to defend really well and that starts with my striker. It is not only about scoring goals, but they also have to do a lot of other things.
“They don't grow only by playing the games they grow with the training, and they challenge themselves, their teammates and each other so that is the way we will go until the end of the season. I am really not interested in how many points other teams have. It is only about us being ambitious to try to win every game.”
The manager provided an update on his squad with Todd Cantwell set to be out for three to four weeks with a hamstring injury, while Kemar Roofe will return to the squad.
He continued: “Todd will be out for a few weeks, of course that is a disappointment for him and for the team because he was in really good form, but it is part of football. We coped with those things in the last couple of months, so it is about other players stepping up and showing the right things for the team.
“On the other side, Kemar trained a few times this week with the group, and he will be in the selection also tomorrow. He will be back in the squad, he won’t play one half or something. It will be for not too many minutes, but it can maybe be important that at the end of the game you can put him with his goalscoring qualities and experience.”
Clement also gave his reaction to this morning’s UEFA Europa League draw, which set up a knockout tie with Portuguese side Benfica in the round of 16.
“It is a really exciting challenge because they are a very very good team.” he continued. “I think it will be the first game when I am here that we will be underdogs in a game that is the reality, but it doesn't mean that we cannot qualify.
“We believe in our qualities, and I think with the mentality that there is in this group now, we can beat anybody but then we need to be in our top top form and you need to have luck also in key moments in the game.
“European nights are important for the club and for the stature of the club, but you need to also be realistic, so you need to look at your budget, what you spend, what the value of your squad is and compare that.
“In that way Benfica are quite in front of us but I think there is a really special story developing here in the building and there's a lot of motivation, hunger and desire and with that we can do really amazing things so that is what we are going to try to do.”
