Sterling: Gers Will Continue To Focus On Themselves

DUJON STERLING says Rangers will continue focusing on themselves as they prepare for their next Scottish Premiership challenge.

The Light Blues are back in action tomorrow afternoon entertaining Hearts at Ibrox as they begin the first of another three-game week of domestic matches.

Speaking to the media in this afternoon’s press conference ahead of their league clash against the capital side, the versatile Englishman wants the Gers to follow up on their recent results to build on the position they find themselves in.

He commented: “I think we should just keep doing what we have been doing when we were chasing, but obviously now we are the ones at the top. We still just look and focus on Rangers; it is all about us to be honest.

“I think it is just taking it game by game. Just trying to rest, recover and repeat really, just keep doing what we have been doing so far.”

“We have played Hearts three times this season and for us we have beat them three times so hopefully that continues again and for Kilmarnock we will worry about them after we get the job done tomorrow.”

The 24-year-old has praised the team for keeping their standards high regardless of who has been on the pitch, as they target a tenth domestic win in a row when they take on the Jambos.

He continued: “That is what you have a squad for, you have to be able to trust everyone.

“You can see by the results that it is not really impacting us having three games a week and we have been doing it since the start of the season really, so nothing changes now.”

Sterling has reflected on his time at the club so far and in recent months having to adapt to an unfamiliar central midfield role, but the former Chelsea man feels it is important to be able to fill in several positions to help the team.

He added: “It was difficult the first couple of months and then obviously we had the change in manager. When he first came in he spoke to me and he had full belief in me and my abilities.

“I had a little setback because I had a problem with my eye, which he gave me time to just get it sorted and settle down with.

“Which was really good and then circumstances helped me get into the team and since then I have just made it my number one objective not to come out the team and to just keep my shirt.

“The first time I came on in midfield that was the first time I had ever done it, so it was just like learning as I go.

“Since then I have just put in my mind and also with the gaffer speaking to me I have got to learn these four or five positions, because in each game it could change.

"I could actually play in one of each, so each day I have been working on what to do in this position and taking notes and to just keep learning.

“I have got a lot of time to study and learn. Plus we have got players in training that I can also watch as well.

“For example when playing in midfield I just liked to watch Lundstram, because he is the prime example in our team.”
