The 49-year-old was confirmed as the 19th permanent manager of the Light Blues on Sunday, and he will make his Ibrox bow this weekend as Hibernian visit Govan in the Scottish Premiership.
The Belgian revealed that he sought the advice of former Gers midfielder Thomas Buffel which, along with honest and meticulous discussions with the Rangers board, convinced him that Ibrox shared his winning mentality.
Speaking as he addressed the media for the first time yesterday afternoon, Clement said: "My short term and long-term objectives are always to win; I am about that, that is my life, and it always has been.
“That is what I want, but I know there is also a process to come to that point and we need to work on that.
“There are a lot of things that we can make better, and it is going to be a process week by week to make things better, and to be focused on ourselves.
“I think it is a really important point when I saw all the games from the team this season; I saw moments of frustration, that players really wanted but they started to do the wrong things, because their expectations were that high and maybe from the fans as well.
“We need now to create a really stable story together that everything is really clear for them, that we can play really good football with good results.
"Thomas [Buffel] was very positive about the club. He had a great time here, he knows me really well, we played together in the national team before.
“I was his coach at Genk in his last year there, and he told me that this is really a club that suits me because he knows I'm a winner and I want to go through the wall to win games.
“This is the mentality that this club needs and wants, and what the fans want. That it is fantastic to be in this stadium when everybody is behind you.”
The Light Blues will be in action in three competitions over the next month, each of which they harbour lofty ambitions within, and the new Gers boss will also look to add a 35th Scottish Cup to the trophy cabinet in Govan when the side enter the competition next year.
And although Clement understands the desire to triumph immediately at Rangers, he also preached patience as he looks to maximise the potential of his attacking footballing philosophy on the squad.
“I think one thing and that is maybe the major thing for the next weeks, and perhaps months, is that we need to be focused on ourselves.
“For me a season is like a marathon; it is of no use to look at the guy that is running in front of you all the time and then try to chase it with one big sprint and fail to have the legs anymore to do the marathon.
“You need to focus on yourself, on your pace that you hired, that is faster than before, that it is better than before, and that you can do all the marathon.
“It is not about the next two or three games, it is about a lot of games this season in a lot of competitions.
“We need to look at all those things, we need to focus on ourselves, not on other teams, and to make our story better and better during all of the season, and then you get results at the end.”
