Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side will host David Martindale’s at Ibrox tomorrow, with this match being the first domestic game for Gers with VAR in operation.
Speaking to the press ahead of the match, he said: “I think that there are both positive and negatives [VAR], but I don’t think too much about it. I think sometimes it helps you and sometimes you don’t get the advantage, I just try to focus on my game and not be offside!
“It’s a really tough game, we know how it was in the first game of the season and we know what to expect. They’re a tough team, quite compact and they will try to play their style of football, but we’ll be at home at Ibrox and have our fans behind our backs – we want to impress and win to continue the way we have in the league.
“We have to dominate in possession to make the game faster, we need to find the space in between as they’ll try to make it narrow, so we have to overcome the lines. It will always help to have a fast goal as we’ve seen in previous games.”
The prolific Croatian insisted the team will endeavour to deliver positive energy as they head into the weekend’s fixture, and to collect three crucial points at the end of the 90 minutes.
He continued: “The fans have their rights to show their opinion, I’m a really positive guy and I want positive energy. I know our fans can give us with the power and energy, we want to give energy on the pitch and what energy they will give us. We have to win, it’s the most important thing. The three points is what counts at the end.
“I don’t look at the bad things, I only look for the positives. Sometimes you have bad performances and other you have better performances; I don’t think we have to just look for the faults – look at the things that we are doing good.
“I just want to score as many goals as I can and I’m working hard for that. I just try to help the team to get everyone into chances. My confidence from the beginning has been very high, I set my targets to be the number one striker here and that’s what I’m working hard for every day.
“Everybody wants to play but I try to impress with my game if the coach gives me the trust, but in the end is all about the success of the club. I just try to be part of that and do what I can.”
