With Rangers due to host Livingston at Ibrox tomorrow afternoon, the boss spoke to the media at today’s pre-match press conference and welcomed VAR but knows it might take time to adapt to in the Scottish game.
When asked about his thoughts on the introduction, he said: “It is good, I am used to VAR, we had it in Holland and in China and of course we have it in European competition.
“I think it is good for the game that we have it in this country and I am glad that they brought it forward. I think it will help all of us, for discussion points and big decisions in games the referee can have help so I think everyone will benefit from it.
“In the end it is still VAR who decides, for some decisions it is either offside or onside but with penalties or red cards it is always the interpretation of VAR as well because that is also a referee.
“I told the players as well it goes both ways, yes it is positive for you, but it will also be against you if you have hand balls in your area but my players are used to it in Europe and now we will have it in every game.
“I don't think it is about benefits to bigger or smaller clubs. I think in the end it is all about how many times you come into those situations. If you are playing against a defensive team in their own box of course there will be many situations where it might be a penalty or offside or not.”
Looking ahead to tomorrow’s game against Livingston, the boss hopes the squad can continue their strong domestic form over the 90 minutes.
He continued: “I think that is the most important thing for me to have that performance for 90 minutes tomorrow and that was the focus over the last couple of days.
“Obviously we have won the last five games domestically, a couple of games were very convincing 4-0 wins. In the cup when you go to the semi-finals it is very positive but I can understand the last 25 minutes and the frustration.
“At big teams and big clubs the stakes are really high. It is about winning games but as you said you have to entertain and you have to win in the right manner so that is something we need to improve, keep winning but also improve our game.
“If we have that for 90 minutes then you have the results we had against Hearts and against St Mirren and that is the most important thing. We have to make sure the fans leave the stadium after a convincing win and convincing play and that is our focus.”
