The midfielder, who celebrates his 21st birthday today, was singled out for praise by head coach David McCallum afterwards, with McKinnon teeing up the equalising goal for the Gers.
Speaking to RangersTV after the match, the midfielder commented: "It's a good test to play against a first-team. It was a good challenge for us.
"I think the boys put out a strong performance and we could have won the game, but we'll take the draw and move onto the next one.
"They started very quickly and you could tell straight away that they were a good team. They were comfortable taking the ball in tight areas, and it was something that the boys need to play against.
"It challenges us, and playing against first-team opposition is what we want to play in.
"Obviously they have a lot more experience than us, but I think all the boys enjoyed it."
The Light Blues were forced to come from behind twice to ensure a share of the spoils, with Bailey Rice's spot-kick ten minutes from time the very least that Gers B deserved.
And McKinnon believes his personal experience of training on a regular basis with Philippe Clement's first-team equips him well to handle the physical, tactical and mental challenges of competing against senior opposition.
He continued: "I thought both in the first and second half that we had the better chances out of both teams.
"The game started to open up as the match went on, and I think the boys are fit because of the training that we're getting in.
"We just kept going until the end; the chances eventually came and it's just about being a bit more clinical. We'll work on that in training and it will come in the games.
"It's about training with the first-team and bringing what you've learned back round to the Academy side.
"Training with the first-team makes it feel as if you're playing against an experienced side like Bohemians.
"[Bohemians] don't care that we're academy boys because they're here to win. They want to win every game that they play, and for us, at a club like Rangers, winning is in blood.
"It was a good game and one that we needed under our belt."
