From being 2-0 down with 59 minutes played, the Light Blues somehow managed to battle back to record a remarkable 3-2 victory in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 32, with Ianis Hagi (2) and Joe Aribo scoring in sensational style.
McAllister was proud of the character the Rangers players showed in front of a sold-out Ibrox. The club’s assistant manager, speaking at this morning’s pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s Premiership fixture against St Johnstone, said: “Obviously there was loads of emotion. The atmosphere was incredible and a lot of credit goes to the players.
“We’ve got to take the confidence from that and the positives from that, because the last 25 minutes were very pleasing on the eye. I thought some of the football was great and we were a real threat and very difficult to play against.
“Braga, from looking very good first half, we then asked questions of them and we came up with some answers. We broke them down and created chances, and even though in the first half I felt Braga were the better side, we still had three or four good chances.
“So that was the message at half-time, that this team will give you a chance if you create some problems.
“I think maybe a little bit of confidence comes into play. We’ve got a few experienced players who have stood up in recent times, but we’ve got a lot of young players.
“This is the first time they have been asked these sort of questions, playing in front of a very expectant crowd and the pressure of being at Rangers and having to win every game. A draw or two draws is a crisis.
“But these are things we’ve all heard before, so being a Rangers player is something you have actually got to deal with. This sort of result should boost the confidence.”
