Danny Rohl: Squad Are Ready For Scottish Cup Action

DANNY Röhl says his Rangers side are ready for Scottish Cup action as they host League Two side Annan Athletic at Ibrox tomorrow evening.

The Gers kick off their cup campaign against the lower league outfit and are all too aware of the threat posed in the competition after exiting at the hands of Queen's Park just under a year ago.

Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow's clash under the lights, the Head Coach commented: "A big respect to every opponent. You saw yesterday that Real Madrid were knocked out of the cup; Crystal Palace out of the cup [at the weekend] too.

"You need to be very focused on this game as well. We will rotate some positions, which is normal because some players deserve a chance.

"I'm convinced that the players coming in are ready for this game and should be ready. We have prepared very seriously and have used this week for some load management.

"There will be some players who aren't in the squad tomorrow because they've played a lot.

"It's a cup game, and every opponent can defend and play with passion. This is what we expect tomorrow, and we need to break them down as soon as possible to help create chances and goals. But first, we need to put the same effort in as always."

Rangers have been active in the early weeks of the January transfer window, adding Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens to the squad.

On what Rommens, who will miss the next couple of weeks with a minor issue after being announced yesterday, will bring to the squad, Röhl continued: "I'm very happy that he's here now. We worked very hard to get this deal done.

"He will bring a physical side to the team. He's very strong in the defence and offence, and at this moment we need to build him up.

"In the next couple of days, it's about building him up to play games. At this point it's also important that Jayden [Meghoma] has in the last couple of weeks and months made an outstanding job.

"I think this is great. With Tuur in the long term, it's very helpful that we have this position covered."

The Ibrox side boasts the joint-meanest defensive record in the Scottish Premiership this campaign.

It has been the fruits of a well-oiled off-the-ball structure, and Röhl believes this month's additions will add even greater physicality to his squad.

He added: "It's always important when you know the league a bit more what you need to expect.

"It's not just the league. Even when you play against Roma, you see a big difference in the physical side.

"I looked out onto the training pitch yesterday and saw that my team is growing and we have more bodies and physicality.

"You need a good balance, but football is about intensity, physicality to win duels, and you need some players around who have the X factor."
