The B team boss credited his team’s winning performance against the Colts after carrying momentum through to the final whistle to gain a last minute winner to provide a super response to Saturday’s defeat at Bo’Ness.
Speaking to RangersTV following their victory against James Orr’s side, he said: “I loved the performance. We got the reaction we were looking for tonight, no question. If we had drawn the game 2-2, we’d still have been generally pleased with the performance, but delighted with the fact we managed to go on and win the game.
“The way we got the first goal, simply came off the back of never giving up, we showed a lot of control and calmness to create some great opportunities. I really have to talk the players up in terms of how they reacted to those set backs. They stayed true to how we wanted to play.
“A lot of credit to the players for staying true to the way we wanted to be as a team and having a real character and personality to staying in the game.”
McCallum continued by highlighting the way all players stood up to the challenge tonight, with some of the younger players starting and making an impact in the match.
He added: “There are young players right through the team, they’re always learning and trying to find ways to make sure that they understand what the game might look like above the Academy level.
“That was a tough game tonight, and we stood up to that. You can see the younger ones growing in their belief that even though they are going against older players, they can stand up to challenges.
“You’re going to have players on the bench wanting to come in and take your place so, great credit to the lads they’ve stood up to that and we’ll look forward to the game at the weekend to make sure that it is replicated.”
