David McCallum: Must Look Beyond The Result

DAVID MCCALLUM says Rangers must ‘look beyond the result’ as the B Team played their first pre-season friendly against Edinburgh City this afternoon.

The League Two side won 1-0 thanks to a first-half strike from Ousman See, but McCallum believes there were plenty of positives to take from the match.

Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “I think the first thing we need to do is look beyond the result, in general terms we are actually very pleased with the performance.

“We set a few targets to achieve during the game based on things we had worked on during the week and it was very evident.

“We pretty much dominated the game in terms of possession, they have been challenged to try and replicate how the first-team play. It is very pleasing that Gary McAllister passed that message on as well after the game how he felt it was very similar.

“We know we have a long way to go to be where they are but just to see the similarities is important. Out of possession we set them some targets again which sometimes worked well and at times didn't but it is the first game back after one week worth of training so I am very pleased.”

McCallum feels they can take a lot from this afternoon’s match as they continue their pre-season preparations.

He added: “Obviously we know we are going into the Lowland League and we are playing against men and we know it will be a physical challenge but we don't know how that will manifest itself in the game.

“From our point of view we have to try and nullify that one aspect of their game to make sure it doesn't become as big a part of the game as what they might want it to be.

“Edinburgh caused us some problems today but the biggest challenge for us was actually trying to access their box so that's something we will look at going forward to try and find a way to find solutions to that during a game.

“We will look at trying to be more aggressive in attack in our opposition box to try and make sure we make good of opportunities and possession
