The young Gers were 9-0 winners at Dumbarton’s C&G System’s Stadium and McCallum was delighted with the approach and professionalism shown by his side.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “I am pleased first and foremost by the way we approached it. We challenged the players before the game to ensure we had an energy about our performance and that was evident throughout the 90 minutes and we scored some really good goals in there as well.
“You are going to get different types of games in this league and you have got to be respectful to the opposition, but I think the best way of showing that respect is ensuring we hit our highest level. I’m not saying that was the case today but the energy was really evident which sets the standard.”
Greig Allen and Leyton Dunlop both made their B team debuts this afternoon at just 16-years-old and McCallum feels the one club approach and style of play helped ease them into the match.
He continued: “They have had really good reports with the under-18's and today was an opportunity and both went on and acquitted themselves really well and it looked normal to them.
“When you look at how we are trying to play as a B team we are trying to replicate the first-team style, the 18's are also trying to do that to a certain degree so you can see they fitted in seamlessly.”
With Jay Hogarth, Leon King, Adam Devine, Alex Lowry and Cole McKinnon all heading on international duty with Scotland under-19’s next week, McCallum hopes they can use the Lowland League experience to their benefit.
He said: “All the games are different and it will be the same at international level with different levels of opposition. Some games you will get a lot of time on the ball and other games not so much so that is a challenge we are getting with the Lowland League.
“When they are away with Scotland hopefully they will use this experience. I think all of them are really deserving of this opportunity and I know they are looking forward to it.”
