DAVID MCCALLUM praised the way his players dealt with the individual challenges as well as the team challenge in today's pre-season friendly victory over Clyde.
Owen Andrews gave the League One side the lead early in the match but goals from Arron Lyall and Robbie Ure saw Rangers come away from Broadwood with a 2-1 win.
Speaking to RangersTV after the match, McCallum said: "We spoke before the game that as much as we talk about a football challenge it is probably a mental challenge as well because it is a step up and Clyde have had a good pre-season.
"It is always a target to try and get as many players minutes before the season starts, we know that the balance of the squad is what it is and it is about trying to make sure that we use them appropriately so I think it was good minutes on the pitch.
"It was pleasing to see Robbie Ure, an under-18 scoring today as well and Kelsey Ewen going in at centre-back playing against David Goodwillie so there were good individual challenges on the pitch as much as it was a team challenge as well."
McCallum was pleased with the players response to the half-time messages as they looked to cause Clyde more problems in the second-half.
He continued: "In the first-half I thought we had some challenges and they had quite a bit of possession but I've always tried to say to the players that hem having possession is not a big concern it is what we do with the ball and how we contain them in certain areas.
"The two messages were quite simple at half-time, be more aggressive when we get a chance to get a regain and when we have the ball obsessed to try and actually go and hurt the opposition defence and have an impact in their box.
"I think second-half we could see that and I thought we got many more regains higher up the pitch and I thought in terms of possession we certainly caused them more problems in their box as well."
