The B Team boss spoke exclusively to RangersTV following their challenging game against Ricky Waddell’s side. McCallum reflected on the way his squad performed and highlighted the impact of the substitutes.
He said: “Today’s game was what we thought it was going to be. It was the first time that the boys had to come back from travelling and have another fixture within two days. It was challenging and it was important that the lads set the standards of what we have set in previous games and hold ourselves to that.
“There was a lot of patience required, I thought that we had good moments around the penalty spot. We got a little frantic after the equaliser, we were trying to get back ahead. We settled back down a bit and got the two goals late on, but it’s a 90-minute game, we had to remain patient and stay true to how we play.”
“Alex [Lowry], Ross [McCausland] and Tony [Weston] were a little disappointed not to start this afternoon but they have a role to play. Ross’ goal was a great finish and something again which he proves to be strong in those areas.
“Alex in the penalty areas always brings that calmness and control but out with you can see the three of them starting to build up that control and impact within the game.”
McCallum highlighted how pleased he is with the way in which Greig Allen has adapted to the B Team demands as the youngster started this afternoon.
He added: “Greg was brilliant today and had a strong performance. He was calm and competed when he had to.
“He played in the latter of the Hammarby game and came into the match today, he should be really pleased with his performance. As a staff, we are also very pleased with his impact.”
