The B Team boss underlined the level of depth throughout his team as they beat the Black and Gold side 6-1 today.
McCallum spoke exclusively to RangersTV after this afternoon’s winning performance against Stuart Malcolm’s side at Sheilfield Park. He outlined his delight in the way that his squad carried out their game, he said: “It was a strong performance this afternoon.
“One of the messages before the game was that we came off the back of a very exciting week against Hammarby. Coming into the game today it was important for us to use the energy that we had from the previous game to ensure that we had a strong performance.
“We were very aggressive with our possession, and we scored terrific goals this afternoon as well. It was important that we kept the momentum going.”
In a seven-goal fixture and Jay Hogarth making exceptional saves, McCallum continued by highlighting the level of depth throughout all areas of the pitch from his youngsters. He added: “It wasn’t a game as straightforward.
“Our defenders had to be strong in key moments and Jay [Hogarth] had to pull off some great saves in critical times as well. There have been different aspects from today’s performance to get us where it got to, the boys deserve a lot of credit.
“We had to dig in at certain points to keep the scoreline as it was. The message going into the second half was to start well and on the front foot, we wanted to make sure there was control going into the game in the second half.
“The substitutes that came on also brought control and calmness and added to the attacking threat in the final third. Everyone played their part in what was a good team performance.”
Jay Hogarth spoke to RangersTV after the game and highlighted his thoughts on the way the squad performed in this afternoon’s fixture. He said: “I thought for large parts of the game we did really well.
“I had to make some challenging saves, but I was expecting that going into the game. From my point of view, I was just trying to be ready going into the game and I just had to be in my position.
“We made sure that when we lost a goal it wouldn’t affect us, and we kept things right.”
